Starting a turbo build
I'm starting a turbo build on my 98 trans am. So far I have decided to use my ls1 with 317 heads, head studs, btr stage 1 turbo cam, built lvl 5 4l60e, and a borg t4 s475/.83 1.00 turbo. And planning on running 93gas. My car weighed 3200 lbs when it was n/a.
The plan is to run mid to low 10s eventually and still be street friendly.
The few questions I have are:
1. What size stall to run
2. What gear to run
3. What size hotside piping
Thanks

all good questions and good answers so far. that's why I liked this site bc as I was doing my first turbo build I was able to get jjst about any help I needed here. I went with 355 gears and love them but different people will of course have slightly diff opinions. definitely don't go 373 or 411s though I've had both on my boosted build and changed them very quickly. some other things you may wanna think about it rear end. I blew through a 10 bolt like butter, then blew through a 12 bolt in just about the same amount of time. ended up going with Midwest Chassis. 317s can be great heads for boost for cheap, good pick there. I would use stock ls6 intake. fuel lines can be upgraded easily without too much expense if you do it all yourself. only other thing I'd mention is decide if you wanna run stock pcm or maybe go microsquirt something like that. I've heard the 98 pcms can be more difficult to tune but I would imagine a competent tuner could make it work. don't forget to wrap or coat your hotside, it can keep you out of trouble later on atleast that was my experiance. other than that. jjst make sure you have fun with the build sounds like your on the right path

Thanks for all the input so far. I should mention it's a 98 car with a 2002 wiring harness and pcm. Def going to use a ls6 intake. I want to upgrade the rear to a 9 inch eventually but one step at a time. I'm sure once my rear end pops the first time I'll spend the money on a 9. I'll have to look into an 80e swap.
