Default Wastegate will not open *issue resolved* op is dumb.

I have a stock 5.3 with a 7875, and t56. No boost controller, just wastegate spring. I started with a tial knockoff 44mm wg. I was getting huge boost, and pulled the wg off the car to test with shop air. Sure enough, it opened right where it should at 10 psi. At the time I also had the boost reference at the manifold, teed off for the bov, and boost gauge. So I welded a fitting to the charge pipe right after the turbo, just to make sure that wasn't the issue. No change. I then took the wg off the car, to make sure that there wasn't something else weird going on. Drove the car with an open pipe, with no waste gate at all, and as one would expect, there was no boost created at all. I just went and picked up a tial mvr44 local, put it on, and there is no change. still mega boosting.

I am stumped. I cannot think of a reason why the wastegate will not open if it is seeing a good boost source, and has a reasonable spring inside.

Your reference line is going to the bottom port on the wg correct?

Just making sure, are you sending the boost line to the bottom of the gate, or the top? Also, what kind of "Mega boost" is it making?

Yes the boost pressure is going to the bottom of the gate. Which is the same place I went with the shop air for the bench test. Boost is going over 1 bar, and I am just letting off so I do not blow it up.

At the risk of being laughed at by the internet, I will post this anyway. I installed my wastegate backwards. That sounds hard to do, some might say almost impossible. When a person owns a welder, and has never installed a wastegate anything is possible. In my defense, there were no instructions, and the flanges fit this way better. Hopefully this helps somebody, at some time.

don't bash yourself about it just get it fixed and be happy there are still pistons in your engine.lol.

If you are always willing to admit what REALLY happened, people will always be willing to help. They may get a laugh out of it, but the learning curve can be steep, and everyone has done something stupid during a build. Admitting a mistake means you are actually learning to do it right.

Thanks guys. Only took me 30 minutes to take the stuff out, chop and weld on new flanges. Got out tonight, and the car is running great.
