Switched to the 145 amp KG3 truck alternator and all dimming issues are gone.

As Lance says, doing anything is a waste of time without verifying actual voltage with a proper meter ( or logging system voltage at the ecu would be another option )

OEM gauges like that are rarely accurate.

An alt can put out a good amount of voltage but not enough amps. That is the entire reason of getting a higher output alt correct? they don't label them by voltage output but by current/amp output. A voltage gauge will only tell you half the story. Volts and amps are not directly related like that. If you have low volts you will lilely have low amps, but you can have reg or high volts but low amps as well.
Making voltage drop less and using better power and grounds helps out quite a bit.

Nathan, I now understand why this should be done, but how do you connect a 4g wire to rear of the GM case that only have those 4 tiny bolts?

it grounds through the case then you could just use one of the bolt holes there. some have threaded holes in the back of the alt as well for brackets an braces

A voltage difference between the Alt out and the ECM could reveal another issue entirely, and is def worth checking.
