Default Starting ANOTHER turbo build!

Hey guys!

Now that my first forced induction build is under my belt and I have learned a lot from doing it, I'm starting to gear back up to finish my 62 Chevy II that I've been working on for WAY too long!

I'm wondering about a good turbo selection for this car, I know I came on here asking about a good turbo for my 6.0 in my OBS truck and a S475 was recommended. I couldn't be happier about the way that combo worked out!!!

The victim is a 62 2 door hard top, in the body work stages. It's up on a rotisserie in my shop. So far I have installed a 4 link backhalf, through floor pan subframe connectors, and a Mustang II style aftermarket front clip.... Also have tubs that I made ready to go in once I finish the TONS of bodywork left to do.... I have another 6.0 T56 combo set aside specifically for this car, and I have a custom built M60 rear with 5.13 gears and a TruTrac. Rear tires will be 33" slicks which I already have.

My plans are to do basically a stock rebuild of the 6.0 since I bought it taken apart, maybe toss in a small cam, (or a big one?) LS9 gaskets, ARP head bolts and that's it. Overall this will be as homebrewed as my turbo 6.0 T56 OBS which I have had on the road for maybe a couple months or so. I'm not looking to do anything over the top or crazy fancy, but I KNOW I want at least one turbo, maybe more??

I used to think that building a twin setup would be twice as much work because of having two turbos, but, I don't know if it really would be. There's no crossover pipe to make, and you could make the downpipes off each turbo a little smaller perhaps.

So, what turbo, or turbos should I get for this build?? Would two S475s be OVERKILL for this? I'm very pleased with the Borg turbo in my truck, but damn it it BIG and HEAVY....

If anyone has any pics of their Chevy II builds or anything similar please post them up!

Here’s a pic of my 72, I know the Engine bay is different but with the mustang 2 set up up front the Engine bay size is similar

Thanks for the input and pics guys. Haven't logged in recently since some things came up but I'm still enjoying my first turbo LSx build and slowly gathering funds and parts to complete the build on the Chevy II.

Can you guys post up more details about your rides? I'd love to hear them. Still brainstorming on the Chevy II buildup at this point.

Two of ANYTHING that Borg builds is too much. The reason they are a go-to bulletproof turbo is because they are so damn big. If you get stuck on twins, at least downsize to something in the Garrett or Turbonetics size. BTW, with 5.13 rear gears, are you sure you aren't looking to spin a 1300c motorcycle engine to about 20krpm?

Interesting... I think another single S475 for this build should be plenty in that case. I definitely think "bulletproof" when I look at the S475 on my 6.0 T56 truck build I recently finished. These turbos are BEEFY. Isn't ONE S475 good for somewhere in the 1200 HP range anyways?

I know it seems like a crazy high numerical gear ratio, but with the T56 and it's deep ratios plus 33" tires out back it's actually pretty tame. I decided on that ratio by what I wanted my cruise RPM to be in 6th gear at 70 mph. 6th gear at 70 mph with 5.13 ring and pinion gears and 33" tires is 1828 RPM

I have 4.88s in my pickup with the 6.0 S475 T56 combo and it turns 1979 RPM at 70 MPH.

Both T56s have .5 6th gear ratio
