I guess it is just semantics but the use of words "seem" and "appear" seem to add a level of ambiguity that I do not understand. High torque @ a high rpm does not make the hp "seem" high, it is high. Sorry if I seem to be nit picking. Maybe it is because I haven't had my first cup of coffee yet. Off now to take care of that

This talk about big blocks is making me re-think about my plans for my transam. Max effort ls1, or cammed with a procharger and still making peanuts compared to a decent BBC. Not that I'd hack my car up, maybe buy something different. Or put a stroked BBC in the family vehicle 68 Suburban instead of the mild 396 it came with and has. Already has a Th400 and 12 bolt...... hmmm..... was planning on keeping it all original style buuuuut.....

We're going to prove that you can make north of that on an LS

We've already made north of 2000 on a modified stock casting (ERL Superdeck)

There's been several people that have done it already.

You can build anything you want if you have enough money and resources. There's reasons that certain combos flourish in power and reliability in big power applications

Gonna need a whole lot more than north of 2000 to keep up in a class like ODR. For the kind of money you will spend to try to get to 3000hp with an lsx based engine a plr 481x could be had that can make 5000+hp. That's all I was trying to convey to the op who asked why it was that BBC and turbos seemed to rule the fast heads up classes.

I know how much power it takes to run that fast. There's no ODR stuff around besides duck's race, there's outlaw limited street stuff that's a pretty open book, and every sorts of power adder has won it (locally). BBTT, SBT, BBNOS.. You have to get down the track. It's not always the big power cars that win and the ability to turn the car down enough to get down a subpar surface goes a long way.

In classes like LDR, you can't use a 481x/hemi combo without a minimum of 100 lb penalty, and are tire limited at that point also.

Did you actually race a car, or do you just tag along as one of the many guys helping with the car? Just curious

I don't own or drive a racecar if that's what you're asking.

Usually its me alone or maybe 1-2 others that work on/with the cars that I work on.
