Default Garrett Intercooler Core came in today

I'm going to have one built and ordered a core. It came in today....

First impression was Holy Hell this son of a beach is heavy 28.6 pounds in the Garrett box (Not including the shipping box and packing). It is the 24x12x4.5 Garrett #703522-6005

I was going to buy the even bigger one 28x12.7x5.1 Garrett #701596-6001 but decided to go with this one that should fit my Huron Brackets with no sweat. Now that it's here I am glad I didn't.

For comparison the 12x24x4 Complete Intercooler that came with my Huron Kit is 24.4 pounds (Probably the equivalent of the CX Racing everyone uses) in the basic minimum box it comes in same as above. Not including the shipping outer box.

Anyway no surprise about the increase in efficiency with all that extra aluminum in there. That is a whole bunch of surface area difference.

I'll update once it's built.

I have heard from people that I trust that both the Garrett and the Bell intercoolers are "in a league of their own" compared to other intercoolers.

Cant comment on Bell, but I seen very good improvements moving to Garrett core from A N Other brand extruded core design on a friends 4cyl car.

The Garrett cores are impressive to look at if nothing else, they pack in some serious fin density inside, which somehow doesnt even seem to negatively affect flow, but they sure cool well too.

And the cores really arent that expensive. I'd have one on my own if they made one the right bloody size, except they do nothing even close to be usable and I aint buying 2 to cut them up lol.
Oddly Bell cores seem much more expensive than Garrett.

Stevie,

I read tons of posts all over and YB had some serious conversations about it. Shearer stated that a Bell has to be about 15-20% bigger. Garrett followed by Bell then Spearco to a lesser degree seem to be in between the Vibrant/Treadstone/Black Series Huron ect. level. Below that is the CX Racing and equivalents that most have owned at one time or another

The core was a good deal on flea bay at 489.06 from parts powerhouse.

I was pulling 150 IATs in the half with meth and cool weather @ 16 lbs with the F1C and a CX. I hope to be in the low 120s or better with the 76/75 Precision / Garrett setup in the half. Still keeping Julio's Alky Control with a 10 nozzle (chemical cooling not extra fuel) on it for insurance. Also considering trying to push it to a E50ish tune since I have quite a bit of room on my ID 1000s but that is not on the immediate agenda.

Forgot to weigh the finished product before I installed it. It sure is a fine chunk of aluminum though.

G1Pro CAD designed and welded by James. He has a local company that bends his CAD stuff up and then he assembles it.

That's cool. I wonder if they could do another one since they have the dimensions for the Huron Speed brackets?

Or if Huron would use a Garrett core vs. Bell...

He has mine on file there is no doubt. Look into ncc sale this weekend though for consideration. They are running an independence say discount

G1 can get vibrant bell or Garrett cores. I bought mine off eBay to speed things up because I needed to take him the other intercooler for reference. He lives about 60 miles away so I took both on a day I had to go into Houston then picked it up a few weeks later when I took her next appointment.

Any reason for not going for Garrett's new 3.8 inch thick core? It's supposed to be better than the 4.5 inch one!

Never saw that one as an option. If it's a 12x24 it never showed up in any search I did. That's a pretty big % reduction in thickness to be better. I'd understand more efficient per cubic inch but doubt it's better overall other than weight savings, Regardless it's a moot point. I'm no class type racer who needs every cfm and ounce.
