tried and true cts-v pan came in the mail. it's weird how many of these brand new take-off pans are around. was there some sort of recall on those cars? i've never had a problem with one.

i usually drill and tap the pan after it's in the car, but I was curious about how much crap actually falls in. it's about what I expected.

I really wanted to put the turbo drain right there, so I countersunk the bolt

seems ok

Ditto for the weird zerk fitting. Mine has one too. Wonder if you could prime the oiling system through there somehow?

They probably needed a quick plug and grabbed whatever was around, in this case the zerk.

Are you sure its not a bleeder fitting to drain the block before removing the oil filter?

I am wondering how the VSR 475 clone compares to the VSR 78/75?

Was that the 83/75 VS turbo, I used one on my Nova, and bought one for my truck when
he had the killer sale on the billet 83/75.

exactly. It'll be interesting to see how it works with a 4.8.

Being that its only $20 more right now, I wouldn't even consider the 7875 an option.

why am I always tempted by other projects?

I keep seeing these 944's at the pick n pull...an LS swapped one sounds like silly sideways fun

Any then this guy buying the rather dated looking centerlines off the malibu showed up towing a desoto 2 door coupe. I have dreams of just getting a beast like this and dailying it

but I did get some work done

got the truss hoop done.

fabbed up and burned on some LCA bracket extensions

half off day at PnP netted me an exploder carrier with 3.73 gears and I smashed those in.

exploder abs tone ring does NOT fit in a mustang center section. fits here pretty good tho.

31 spline beef looks funny next to that tiny mustang axle end! but bearings, seals, axles in! (no c clips or diff cover on yet, waiting for wheel studs)

Your LCA extension brackets look very similar to mine. Problem with bolt on brackets is they lower the arm too much. I also lowered the shock mount because after lowering the car, you lose travel.

Lowest hole will hit the tire the hardest and hold the tire the longest provided the rest of the chassis is there.

and there's the rub. this thing will progress over time and get much lighter (depending on how long I own it)
also starting with some cheap single adjustable shocks at first and then going to coil overs down the road as funding is secured

not to mention my local 1/4 is pretty much a no prep.

Oh 3 window I should ask what you think about putting similar adjustability on the car side of the upper arms.

Is it worth the hassle of grinding all the under coat off and adding extensions and maybe some stiffening plates?

yeah I bought a lot of stuff from him for the blue truck. crazy good deals on micropolished gear sets and billet pinion yokes.

there's a couple guys I go to for rear end parts....jeff at leadmine products is really great to deal with. also cass eslick at dr diff is super helpful.

Doug,
Nice Malibu. You get so much work done here. I honestly don't know how you find time or the energy. How much do you typically pay for a working JY 4L80e?
Good luck on the house front.

Thanks.

Jim thanks for the compliment, but to be fair this is kind of my job now. The majority of my income comes from finishing and tuning LS swaps, turbo plumbing, and hopefully soon, more chassis fab work.

So I usually go two routes. For my own stuff, If I can find the year 80e I prefer ('99 and later) in the self pull yard I typically pay $130+50 core (so having a stash of busted junk trannies for core returns is helpful) but I try and only go on half-off days so I'm out the door for under $100. Knock on wood every one i've pulled is a runner. HD2 kit and go. billet input shaft if over 1000hp.

On cars that I'm swapping 80e's into for other people I buy them from LKQ (same company as owns pick n pull, schnitzer steel)
That way I have a warranty. Usually runs ~600 bucks depending on mileage.
