Would a leaking wastegate affect AFR at idle?

Default Would a leaking wastegate affect AFR at idle?

I'm having an issue where my AFR at idle will start going lean after a drive, sometimes worse than other times.

I recently found that my wastegate dump tube has a good amount of exhaust coming out of it, you can feel it and hear it.

Could this affect the AFR at idle? My dump tube is about 3 feet long, so it's not like air can easily enter the main exhaust hot pipes leading to the wideband (or maybe it could?)

If it’s not a recirculated wastegate I’d think the o2 for your wideband isn’t sniffing all of the exhaust so probably would read lean, wouldn’t it ??

Well, I just did some testing. I let the car idle for 30 min, then applied pressure to the wastegate opening it fully. The AFR didn’t change, I thought it would, especially since I fully opened it. Maybe it was a bad test though, since with the gate fully open there’s no chance for a Venturi effect since the pressure on the dump tube is way higher.

I also plugged up the wastegate dump tube, completely eliminating the leak - but the AFR stayed the same as well.

My issue is, as the car sits idling, it goes leaner and leaner (very slowly). At this point, I'm starting to think it is a fueling issue, or maybe an exhaust leak from a hot pipe v-band that leaks more and more as the car gets hotter under the hood

I was thinking about this the other night, different side tho. Why doesn't the wastegate affect the afr at wot? Is it just not enough flow to move it much?

To the OP, what does you IAT sensor do while this is going on? Are you running OLSD? A lot of guys have an issue with the IAT heat soaking and the computer makes it run leaner.

OLSD, IAT is slightly increasing. The IAT was giving me major AFR issues before, moved the sensor away from the radiator, still had the issue, adjusted my cylinder charg temp table to where IAT doesn't affect AFR at all, I can completely disconnect my IAT and it doesn't affect fuel the way I have it tuned at this point. Still having a small issue though, my fuel pump is making a whining sounds. Wondering is it slowly loses pressure. I need to rig my fuel pressure sensor into HPtuners to log it

Yeah for sure do that. That's 1 of the best tuning things I have done. (Hooking fuel pressure sensor up to hptuners)

also make sure you have enough vent on the tank. I went through 3 or 4 fuel pumps before I figured out I needed more vent. Lol I'm stupid sometimes.
