Default Coolant surge tank return line location

I've been reworking my cooling system in my 240sx with a turbo 370 LS.

I have the heater core lines plugged, not looped, and an external surge tank. I have the steam vent lines running to the surge tank.

Looking at the stock F Body coolant diagram, the surge tank return line enters the motor at the larger (3/4") heater line port.

I dont have room to tie it into the radiator outlet hose going to the thermostat, but thought about tapping/welding a fitting into the water pump post thermostat, but pre pump so it still pull the coolant from the surge tank.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this thought?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
