Default -6 VS -8 Trans cooler line?

Anyone upgraded to -8 and noticed any improvement? My cooler has AN10 outlets. Just curious if there's any noticeable gains going to 1/2" lines or if it's not worth it. Haven't built the lines yet. Figure now would be the time to do it.

Thanks

Likely no improvement if cooler connections out of trans are smaller.

Its def 5/16 out of the trans. But I could get a 5/16 to AN8 adapter.

My thinking was it's only about 5/16 out of a 044 fuel pump as well, Yet and -6 VS a -10 makes a big difference in the power the pump will support. Was just curious if there were any back to back comparisons out there. I'm all for not running 1/2 line if I don't need it. Was trying to get someone to convince me otherwise!

It's only going to flow as fast as the smallest constriction. However, holding more fluid outside the transmission is bound to add some amount of extra cooling simply by increasing the volume of fluid in the cooling circuit at once.

I suppose if you couldn't possibly fit a larger cooler or add another cooler somewhere else then increasing line volume is all you have left....Might as well just run single pass heat exchanges in place of lines where possible. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/der-13256

Pushing anything (air or liquid) through a line creates a certain amount of friction loss , length, diameter and bends are all factors. Your 044 pump is a good example, or try adding a 50 ' lenght of 1/4" hose to your impact gun - it will kill the power . Even though the fittings are small a larger diameter hose works much better. In firefighting we have formulas for determining friction loss in different lengths and diameters of hose to be able to get proper pressure at the nozzle. Sorry this doesn't answer your question other than saying if the lines are long , make em big . Another factor would be the flow rate, not sure what that is on most trans. 3/8" seems fine for most , keep in mind 3/8 id hose is bigger than 3/8 tubing which is od obviously

I hear ya. Larger line provides reserve volume and less pumping pressure loss (as mentioned with fire hose). Once you exceed the pump volume and begin to consume the reserve volume in the larger line, line pressure starts to drop.

I don't think the additional volume in the trans lines is going to buy you much. I don't mind a cooler with a larger fitting. It basically shows the cooler can better handle higher fluid volume (especially when coming from a smaller cooler line) and not be a restriction/pressure drop.

Not surprising, most full size truck/suvs moved to 1/2" trans cooler lines to insure sufficient cooling flow/volume. I believe Fords been doing it the longest and has typically run the largest coolers allowing fluid to be run longer before worn out by heat load.
