JY LS build question about cams So I’m doing the typical 4.8, 5.3 build, GT45 turbo, e85, etc. I’m only looking to make around 600-650 rwhp so I’m wondering if I even need to get a cam or will it be enough as is with e85? Lots of searching hasn’t really given me the answer to this yet...thanks in advance!
i have ran a stock 6.0 with only a valve spring change. it was a pump gas sierra it ran 11.40 in a 4200 lb silverado . pulled that engine and put in a 6.0 with a stage 2 cam on e85 and went 10.36. so no back to back test.
i think you will have a lot more boost in it to meet your goals . the right cam is worth a 100 hp i bet.

The issue isn't if you will be able to make your power with the stock cam... It will make it, sure. IMO, it will make power at the wrong RPM band to be useful/fun for most "street/strip" toys. You don't want to be all in at 3k (or earlier) and done by 5600rpm. Its really hard on the bottom end and other parts. You'll make more as mentioned above, but more importantly you'll make the power in a better place with the right aftermarket cam.
