Default Alternator hitting procharger pulley

So I've googled searched this and can't get a good answer I'm having troubles with the alternator pulley hitting the procharger pulley. Is it possible to relocate the alternator to the passenger side up top? And just run the procharger in its location? This is on a 2000 trans am. I'm running the larger 145 Amp alternator and it's barley rubbing in the washer that holds the pulley on. If you have relocated the alternator up top and still have prochager at the bottom can I see some pic

Is the pulley on the alternator different from stock? I have no issues with my D1sc contacting any other pulley.

If the alternator is from an early model chevy truck or Escalade then yes the alt pulley will touch the blower pulley. The alternator case holes match up so it can be mounted on the fbody alternator bracker but the case center point moves toward the driver side. As a result there isn't any clearance between the two pulleys.

There are some fixes such as machining the blower pulley hub (search this forum). Or move the alternator topside to the passenger side.

Since I have added three Spal fans to my Procharged D1 fbody Z28 I needed an alternator that puts out more amps.

I got this 165 amp alternator (Powermaster PN 48242). The case mounting holes are the same as the stock alternator and the centerline of the alternator pulley is the same as stock leaving the same amount of the clearance between the two pulleys (alt and blower) same as the stock alternator.

I would call Powermaster Tech Support to verify that the case housing dimensions haven't changed and that the form factor is the same as the stock fbody LS1 alternator. I doubt it has changed but I would make sure first before ordering. A plus with this alternator is that it it 165 amps VS the truck 145 amp alternator.

How long have you been running the powermaster? What size crank pulley and alternator pulley are you running? Has it been holding up to high rpms?

About a year. The crank pulley for the alternator is stock and the alternator pulley is stock size (2 1/4 as I recall). It it not over sized.

Just had it on the dyno last week but we only rev to 6250 as it falls off after that (recall we did about 11 pulls). Will this alternator go to 7000 +? I doubt it as few alternator will unless you oversize the alternator pulley. I have a Peformabilt Level 3 4l60e. I think max RPM on it is about 6400. Max rpm on a stock 60 I recall is about 6200.

You can go to Powermaster's site for specs where the alternator will falloff. In fact they specifically address this issue in tech support. There are lots of posts about alternator falloff for those who rev 6500 rpm plus.

See pic for clearance. As noted in another post about clearance - you can machine the hub down on the blower pulley instead of replacing the truck alternator with this Powermaster. This pulley is a 3.9 standard ATI pulley. It is not offset.

I recall from another post that the OP machined the hub and also used a smaller diameter washer and also substituted the hex head bolt with a round hex head bolt that you remove and install with an allen wrench. Search this forum for these related posts.
