Default Looking For VSRacing Billet 485 Feedback

Anyone running a VSR billet 485, .96/1.32? Would like to get some feedback, likes/dislikes/issues, combo and HP made and if it was an upgrade, from what and how much difference did you see.

Doing a little research for a buddy looking to upgrade.

TIA,

408/TH400 in a fairly light car. No need to try and rotate the earth.

I currently have one on my SBE 5.3. I don't have any data or numbers to share unfortunately. I will say however the unit surprisingly feels like its a quality piece. My only complaint and something you should be mindful of is the physical size of the unit. The exhaust housing is gigantic and made running it in my foxbody a PITA to fab with. As far as operation I only have a few street miles and half of an aborted pass but it seems like it builds boost great and is pretty responsive compared to how I imagined a turbo this size would be.

My VS racing Billet S480, slightly smaller than your questioned item, is a 1.32 A/R with the 102/92 split housing on my slightly overbored 5.3. I don't have numbers yet (tech inspection has tightened up for no roll cage, etc) but I've driven the car/engine the past 3 years with a single PT7675 .96 A/R, twin GT35's and now with this S480 and I'm ready to report it really pulls hard as you wind out the gears. I'm using an AEM tru-boost controller, running a 3 bar Tune (HPTuners) and at 3K on the transbrake, she builds 2-3 psi. Just for grins, I wanted to see what PSI it would build in first gear only. I reset the 'History' on the Truboost , armed the Tbrake, 2 step and lline lock. Then let her rip for only 1st. Got 19psi. Now , driving down the road at 55mph, If I downshift (TH350 w/PTC TC) to 2nd and floor it, you start thinking about "Man, this thing is flying" as you shift to 3rd. It's really exhilarating. My hot side consist of the off the shelf XS power log headers, then reduced to 2.25" to the divided T6 Flange. Left bank of the engine feeds one, the right bank feeds the other. Twin Tial 38mm wastegates , one on each side at about a 45 degree angle from the 2.25" pipes. All compressed air is sent thru the 3" in/out ebay front mount intercooler. Fans are pushers.

As the other responder said, the freakin turbine housing is huge. Trying to guessitimate the fore/aft/left/right/up/down position of this 50(?) pound behemoth found me leaning over the front of my z28, sometimes with my lower legs in the superman flying position.

Thanks for the feedback.

Buddy has a 240Z that I originally swapped in a 6.0L and used a Turbonetics 80mm Y2K T6 with a smallish turbine wheel and housing he had. Worked fine but upgraded to a 408 with rec port heads after an issue with the 6.0L. The turbo is now too small and needs some freshening up on the center section. An upgrade was a consideration but some physical space limitations and a unique 4" DP that I built that would require major work because of the 5" marmon flange on the bigger turbos. Decided to just freshen up the center to fix the oil leaks for now and live with the performance limits. Fairly light car and he's not looking to set the world on fire, so will live with it for now.

Thanks again.

Just for future reference, if you know anyone with a machine shop, they can machine that marmon flange down to accept a standard 4" v band fairly easily.
