Default Turbo 5.3 Build

Hello all,
I am currently in the process of building a 79 c10, I would like to build a turbo 5.3 to put in it. But I have a lot of questions, first this is kinda a budget build so for starters I was thinking of using a Ebay GT45 TURBO (the specs are listed below), for the manifolds I planned on making them myself as I am a fairly competent tig welder and have made headers in the past. To support the turbo I was thinking around a 80lb injector. As far as the internals of the engine I was thinking of just leaving the stock bottom end (gapping the rings) and putting a trickflow cam tps30602001. .560 lift/216/220 duration with 114lsa with matching valve springs. My questions are as followed, has anyone ever used this eBay turbo was success? is it sized appropriately? looking to get around 600-700hp. thoughts on the cam ? what harness are you guys running, I would like to stray away from the stock harness due to bulkiness. is my goal of 600-700hp to far fetched ?

You are reinventing the wheel and need to spend some time on YouTube watching sloppy mechanics. He specializes in budget builds for junkyard 5.3’s. Check out the recipe for a sloppy stage two build.

I have the same exact cam in my 5.3l , 706 heads with spring upgrade. Its about 400 to 410 hp naturally aspirated. I went with alittle more turbo that has more ump!!. U might consider an on3 7875 or vs racing one. Only a few hundred bucks more. Maybe even a vs racing gen2.

That turbos old tech. Its physically large, heavy as a tank, and doesn't perform near as well as similarly sized/priced units (or even smaller turbos) in its class. I wouldn't run one on anything personally. Turbo is kinda the heart of the setup. You don't have a crazy power goal, but you should splurge a little when it comes to the turbo itself and save $ elsewhere. Use a factory manifold. Cut and weld on some vbands and go to town with 2" mild steel piping on the hot side. No need to weld up custom headers. Tons of extra time/expense there thats not needed.

You can pick these up for $250 usually. Make an offer. Some of the S366/S369 clones would also be a good choice for your goals. Any 76/75 or similar unit. Small S475 etc etc...

What are you paying for that cam? It will be lazy on a 5.3 with a 600hp goal. I've run one on my 5.3 and 6.0. Lots of better choices cam wise if you're paying full price for that cam. Also you can save ALOT of money on the cam with your goals. A stock ls1 cam of any sort is plenty to hit your goal.
