Rear gears -street car
I have a 2nd gen Fbody with a LY6 with Summits LSpro cam (Ghost cam) that I want to put a LSA SC on. it. Right now, it has a 79 Camaro 8.5 10bolt with 3.73 gears. I will go to a 4L80E trans once I install a SC. Will these gears work for a street car or are they too deep? Everything I do, will be in stages so please advise
28 inch tire, .75 4th gear in the 4L80, 3.73:1 rear gear at 70 mph should net you about 2,200 rpm on the freeway.
Unless you want a lower cruise rpm then maybe drop to a 3.55 but I think 2,200 will be very doable and still make the car a hoot from a standing start.
Strange makes an excellent spool/axle combo for the 8.5" that makes it very stout for a great price, ran one for years behind a nitrous fed LS6 454.
