Boosted 5.3 build for C10
I am just seeking some advice on the 5.3 I'm building for my 1979 C10 I acquired
Here she, is a work in progress
After searching and I finally found the 5.3 for me, it came out of a 03 Silverado it had 132k miles on it and very clean.
My goal for motor is a street-able 700-800hp
After many long hours of research my current plan ( Likely to change) is the following
Rotating Assembly
- I plan to keep the stock bottom end and just gap the rings, originally I was going to pull everything apart and take the
block to the machine shop have it cleaned and new cam bearing put in, but with this motor only have 130k miles is it even worth it ?
Heads
- The motor has 709 heads, is it worth porting and polishing ?
Cam
- Ive been doing some research and with so many options I haven't determined what would work best for my build the current cams I'm looking into are
- Just a factory LS1 Cam
- BTR Stage ii turbo cam (226/231 degrees of duration, 0.605 / 0.598-inch lift) Is it worth the money ?
- Trickflow cam tps30602001. (.560 lift/216/220 duration with 114lsa with matching valve springs) Is it worth the money ?
Intake
- For the intake I was thinking a stock LS6 intake or whatever I can find on FB marketplace just looking for something clean.
- As for injector I figure that was a something to figure out at a later date
Turbo
- For the turbo I turned to eBay and found this Universal billet Turbo charger T78 7875C T4 .96 A/R hot .75 A/R cold 800-1000HP

Supporting parts
- LS9 Gaskets
- ARP Head Studs
- Knock Sensor delete
- Turbo piping etc
I am currently a full time college student so trying to keep cost low, but I know good parts are not cheap, trying to prioritize my spending. An Ebay turbo is one way I will be doing that, my plan is to replace it with is name brand counter part when I graduate. I know this has been done all over the internet, I just am wanting to ensure I build the best motor for my application.
Thanks in advance for any input.
