What can I get for $3k?
I started modifications on my truck this past December. I already experienced blowing my tranny so I purchased a remanned 6L80 with forged parts. I知 not sure how much HP it痴 rated to, but I値l find out one way or another lol. So far it痴 held up really well for 500 miles or so.
My setup (as far as I can tell) is super reliable right now and I知 enjoying it. I get about 17 MPG on the interstate, I was able to fix my overheating trans issue, but I知 still not satisfied. I知 not sure if I知 being a bonehead or that I知 just advantageous.
In short, I have $3k to spend on parts. What can this get me in terms of longevity of the motor and horsepower? Is there any way I could push 700-800 to the wheels and maintain reliability?
Please let me know! Thanks.
Without gapping your piston rings for the increased cylinder temps and pressure that power adders bring, doing anything else to raise HP levels would be flirting with disaster. Here's a good thread to check out to see what happens when things go wrong.
You can get along fine in low boost and live to tell about it, but if you want to crank it up, things can go bad real quick. Just remember for every five dudes that go; "my engine lasted for hella long and I boosted the hell out of it, you'll be fine" There's that guy with his destroyed motor spending a whole lot more than 3K to get it all back together again.
If this is your daily driver that you depend on to get to work and back and all that ****, I'd think about leaving it alone and getting yourself a project ride to mess with. A 500HP DD truck is still a blast and a half!
