Default Thoughts on 4" vs 5" Downpipe

From what I have seen, turbos are pretty sensitive to downpipe size and power does drop off, Guess I have 2 questions:

Street driving, how much more annoying would the 5" be over a 4" front fender exit?

6.0 with a S491 at 1000 WHP with a 5" DP, how much HP would be lost by a 4" DP? Any significant effect on spool time?

Mine is 4", I'd assume 5" would make a little more power I need to ask Capiz about that the next time we chat. But my exhaust is also pretty short, maybe 3.5 feet at the most?

Like PSJ said, you might be losing a little at that power level. My mustang had a 402ci with a F.I. billet 85/102 that was mounted on the drivers-side frame rail with an immediate 5" to 4" transition and 2 45* bends to a pass-side fender exit. 8.092 @ 169.78 with 3300# and Wallace spits out ~1,100rwhp, for what that's worth. Maybe I was leaving power on the table but it certainly wasn't restrictive as i ended up dragging the parachute at the 60' when I turned up the boost.

Since this is a street car, going 5" will depend on how much noise you and neighbors can tolerate, how much room is in the engine bay, how the turbo is positioned and can you swallow the price of 5" SS or 11g aluminum bends. E.g., trying to do a 5" fender exit with a turbo positioned front to back is like making an 18-wheeler do a u-turn on a 2-lane road.

Thanks for the info. I took a quick look, and I did not realize how expensive 5" stainless is. I guess some of this might be N/A thinking where you are always looking for every little restriction and HP. The turbos make so much power, unless you are class racing, leaving a few on the table really is not a big deal. Although, I will say the 5" exhaust looks nice.

My used capiz turbo had a 5/4" reducer so I went with it, he went 7.72@174 (2900 r/w) with this unit.

I later added a small 4" Burns (I think) muffler after the turbo, knocked the sound down a little.
