Procharger Race Intercooler
Procharger F-body Race Intercooler (AIGN2A-011B) - $1,500
I know Procharger uses custom API cores for their intercoolers and are engineered with specific fin count and row spacing for their applications. However, I have also been told that the plenum design becomes a restriction at a certain point that could be remedied by diverter fins within the plenum. The intercooler "supports" 1300hp, but well before then, the restriction causes a marked increase in intake temps and Procharger largely keeps the design the same as it would increase production time and cost. Nonetheless, this is regarded as a solid, if not pricey kit that is engineered for our application.
Shearer Fabrications ProSeries 1200hp Intercooler (SF06-01003-30H) - $1,100
Custom intercooler using a Garrett core. I emailed with an employee of theirs who gave a very friendly, detailed and prompt reply who was very confident in the quality of their product and core selection. They have a fantastic reputation and I can already see why.
No Corners Cut (NCC) Fabrication (NCC1000) - $1,170
NCC rates the intercooler at 1,000hp and use Bell cores. Bell cores are comparable to Garrett in terms of efficiency and reputation and I was also told by someone deeply intimate with Procharger intercooler design that the Bell cores are the most similar to the ones Procharger uses, if not a bit better.
All of the above intercoolers are 4.5" thick and otherwise almost dimensionally identical, with maybe +/- 1" in width or height. Does anyone have any experience with any of the above mentioned intercoolers or have any alternatives to offer? I'm trying to make the A2A component of the system as efficient as possible and do it right the first time. Any input is appreciated!
The Procharger intercooler very well could work for you depending on your goals and would just connect up easily. There are others yet such as Chiseled and 417 you could explore as well. Someone might even make an upgraded unit specifically for your situation and I thought I saw one recently. I have the ability to fabricate my own stuff and have an extra Garrett core sitting here waiting to be used, let me know if I can help…
There have been a few posts where his coolers have solved high IAT temp issues that other coolers could not.
I have the Shearer 1200hp A2A. I don't any track times to share but the build quality is great. Some of the guys I rely for my car are big fans of his stuff.
My friend with the mid 8 second '69 Camaro just purchased the 1400hp version for his car, he was rocking a budget Mishimoto and it was time to make a change. He asked around and folks were pretty positive about Ron's stuff.

Do you have any of that data to share?
