That's a tough question, the 5.3 LT is a great engine and makes good torque but that's due to direct injection and their VVT system. They do have better heads from the factory up until you get into the rectangular port on 6.0 and larger.
5.3 vs 5.3 I would pick the LT. Anything larger, I would go to LS due to head performance.
