Weird turbo question.
Ok has anyone ever run oil to a turbo with no exhaust or intake air going through it. So it wouldn't be spinning at all. If so did it push oil past the seals. I wouldnt think.it would but we had a caterpillar we ran wth the exhaust manifold off and it leaked past the seals. Cat said of course it did like I was dumb or something. Of course he then couldn't explain why it did it but put the exhaust back on and it no longer leaks. Wtf? Is this a FM thing-works by freaking magic.
The oil seal in a turbo is a lot like piston rings. The super-fast rotation of the gap and thin film of oil are what keep it sealed when the engine is running. If you pressurize it in a static state, oil finds a way through the stationary gap.
