Default LS2 Turbo build - Need input

Hey everyone,

I am building a Mitsubishi 3000gt with an LS2 and t56 mag combo. Goals are for it to be a fun track/ weekend car and I am looking to add a turbo kit to achieve 500-600whp. My question for yall is what mods should I do before adding a turbo or can I leave everything stock? Just wondering if I should change the cam for a more boost friendly cam, valve springs, injectors, etc. I would prefer not to have to pull the bottom end and change ring gap etc. if possible. Would prefer to stay on the cheaper side as I am currently in college!

Also any recommendations on turbo sizes? The ebay gt45 is pretty tempting for the price...

Thanks

For 500-600whp with an ls2, the stock cam and ring gap will be fine. Injectors will be a 100% necessity to upgrade. Valve springs may be needed, but not a certainty. What is a certainty is that if you do upgrade valve springs, the pushrods will have to be upgraded as well. Don't even bother turbo shopping until the engine is in and you can see how much room you will actually have to fit something. This may drastically narrow your options.

I'd do cam, springs, pushrods and head studs while its out but that's just me.
For turbo, a VS billet 7875, easy to fit and will make power easy.

If you keep the stock cam you should still change the valve springs. I don't think the stock injectors are big enough for 600HP.

Eric Englert on FB raced I think the same model of car for 4-5 years, so he might be a good person to connect with:

I recommend to get the car running how you like and then plan the turbo setup.
I would install some pac 1218 springs and leave it all sealed. Then a 7875 turbo from some company like vsr, on3 or pulsar. Stock cam and turbo can make 700rwhp easy with those turbos and have great driveability and super fun when it spools. I would also think any smaller turbo would be to small for that 6L.

Since you are on a budget, do not open the motor. Once you open the motor your budget will go out the window. Cam, springs, lifters, push rods, gaskets, seals, etc etc. It all adds up.
If its a healthy engine dont touch it, leave the magic trapped inside. I am pretty sure Sloppy Mechanics got a 6.0 LQ4 to 12 lbs boost before he floated the stock valve springs.
Just get it in and get it running, all stock, then add turbo. Dont need anything done to motor if you are running low boost. Dont get temped to turn the boost up......
Get Deka 80 injectors, walbro 450 pump, and 7875 or gt45 turbo and enjoy 500whp.
