Default New PB for low budget combo

Got to the track yesterday, good conditions DA was 2200 ft , about 80°F . Bit of a headwind which hurts the mph of the truck . Race weight is about 4435 - its getting heavier LOL. This is a very cheap combo that's logged 34k miles and done 3500 mile road trips - 2 HRPT . It has exceeded my goals of running high 11s to stay out of cage territory. Posting this mostly so guys can see that you don't need to spend much to make some decent power . Remember this is a daily in the summer and can drive it anywhere, combo as follows
- 04 lq4 cam and springs only - nothing else
- 214 /214 cam motion , pac behives
- 08 tbss type manifold- 30$ at JY
-Early fuel rails with factory regulator - modified to fit the manifold
- -8 feed , -6 return
- decapped truck injectors, approx 72 lbs /hr
- VS cast 7875 , 44mm gate , 3" intercooler and piping kit.
- p59 with hp tuners
- 4l80e with ptc 258mm single disc so no WOT lockup
-3.73s eaton carrier and moser axles in truck 12 bolt
- MT 295 65R 15 ET streets - getting old.
Oh , I'm on the right of the time slip
Been very happy with this , my first Ls , first hp tuners . If I were to try and improve on it I might go slightly larger 218 cam , home ported 317s and a next gen 7875 billet. This would only be useful on the track as even this power level is insane on the street with street tires and I would like to keep my license. Got a 4 port solenoid so I can reduce gate spring for an even lower low boost setting and still be able to crank it up when wanted

I love it, the embodiment of K.I.S.S.
Reminds me of Cletus running Lumberjack and how much fun he was having versus running a car like Eagle, trucks like yours can be way more enjoyable.
No pictures of the truck?

Don't have many pics actually- too busy driving it. Dug this one up , drove it 1200 miles each way to visit my ailing uncle , even took him in the parade

Sadly the tonneau cover won't stay secure at high speeds anymore so have to run the strip with it rolled up behind the cab . Not really sure that helps or hurts the mph . It's drive to the track , swap tires and go

I tried yrs ago when it was slower but the track tech guys wouldn't allow it even though it wi not come off unless you remove bolts . Think they assumed that it could be bounced off if left open, most new trucks thus could happen. I should ask again but don't want to start anything when I'm already almost a second below the cage ( and other) requirements

thanks , I've weighed it at at least 3 different municipal dump scales over the many yrs I've had it with various power trains . Heaviest was all iron bbc /th400 , lightest iron block sbc , aluminum every thing else and 700r4 , this in between. 80e , turbo stuff , steel interior, even door panels , 20 gal fuel tank - full cause it's behind the rear axle , it all adds up . Was thinking about making it a short box , would shed some weight and the shorter wheel base would probably help it leave . But , think it's an even better sleeper with the long box. Since I moved and had do house and shop renos last yr it was hauling supplies from the lumber yard nearly every day last year and lots of dump runs and weighing opportunities

That's a sweet ride! Seeing that time slip is killing me, though. I am so slow ET wise for my MPH. I'm running higher MPH than the car that ran a 9.99 next to you! You're really moving out for how heavy that thing is.

Welcome to drag racing a manual transmission streetcar.
Don't feel bad, my last manual turbo car went something like 2.1 60' / 12.20 ET / 126mph lol.
The experience has given so much more respect for legitimately fast manual transmission guys like Grannas and Grubworm.

thanks , definitely harder harder with a manual. What vehicle are you in ? In my case the mph is on the low side because of the bad aero of an old truck. Built an almost exact duplicate of this combo for a friend's 72 monte carlo only difference was the hot side , converter and 4l80 were stock , car 400 lbs lighter. Didn't have enough cooling system so I'm sure it was pulling some timing, didn't log it but by what he said about ECT I'm sure it was pulling a degree or 2 . Anyway at that time 14.5 lbs of boost on both the car went .5 slower but 5mph faster , pretty sure the aero is responsible for that

The Firebird in my signature photo is what I have it in. So it's somewhat aerodynamic. If I get a stronger trans that I can power shift, I'd gain a lot. Right now, I'm leaving over a second on the table making sure I shift clean.
