Default turbo vs gas mileage

undefined
Guys:
I have a question that someone can answer.I am planning to install a turbo kit to my 99 LS-1 T/A.I will be using 6.0liters heads to lower the compression to 9.1.I have talk to many people and they have told me that i would need to install 42# injectors to make this set up work by the way my goal is to acheive 500RWHP and around 550RWTQ.Using a t-63 or a T76 at 10 psi and a walhboro 255l.Here comes the question USING INJECTORS THAT BIG CAN I GET A DECENT GAS MILEAGE?by the way the car is a daily driver the extra power will be needed for some street racing. Can anyone share some light?
ANOTHER CONCERN WOULD BE FOR TUNNING.

Yes you can if your tuning is good.

My truck bone stock never got more than 16.5mpg. After a beefy cam (226/5.35/112) for a 5.3L, 42lb injectors, long tubes, no cats, intake etc. I was still getting 15mpg average. The tuning is key.

That being said, once you floor it with an FI car with that much HP your milage will take a huge dive and so repeatedly doing so on a single tank of gas will decimate you milage I am getting about 20miles or more less by half a tank then before the turbo.

i pretty much had that set up you are talking about, cept with a forged engine with 8.9:1 CR.
i usually got around 20mpg with beeting on it a bit.
when i was stock motor (10:1CR) with my T76 turbo kit my gas mpg dropped to 23mpg were stock it was consistant and 25mpg
so it seemed like dropping CR hurt the worst for gas milage, but i dont think 20mpg was bad for a 512rwhp car.

I get a +3 mpg difference with a turbo, 44# injectors and tuning. Of course, as F8L said, once I hit it, I'm at a previous mpg or worse. It will eventually come back up but takes a while.

Personally, I'm not counting on ever seeing that +3 except on a trip -- I only found this out while sick and when I was having a slight problem and couldn't go to WOT

I keep forgetting the fact I dropped almost a full point of compression ( 9.5CR to 8.5CR). Maybe that's where all the gas milage went.

I'm looking into a turbo setup with in a year and I'm doing my research. I was just wondering, why does the mpg take a while to return to normal mpg?

I picked up 2 mpg and 3.5 mpg towing. But when you got the pedal to the floor the mpg's go down.

...just did a round trip to atlanta on thursday - about 290 miles burn 12.5 gallons - 23mpg. I only laid into it twice on the way up. This was with a/c freezing the car out and cruise at 80-90 mph. On the way back, I stayed at 70-80 with no hammer down time and have a little better than a half tank left. I estimate that it burnt 9 gallons on the way back but wont know until I go fill up. If my estimate is correct, the return got 28 mpg.
