Default How to break in a turbo motor?

My friend just bought a new turbocharged car. I know it isnt a vette, but i figured I would ask my question here since you guys are pretty knowledgable about this stuff. Anyways, how should the engine be broken in? I know some guys say to do some WOT runs on NA engines to seat the rings, but wont that work against the rings on an engine boosting 15 psi? So what should be done to break the engine in? Thanks

I am don't realy belive in a break in! It sounds good but at most shops they build the motor than in goes righ to the dyno! It getts some hard pulls on there! I know the street is different like air temp and traction.
As far as the turbo I would think it will break itsshelf in realy fast! Do to the RPM's they spined at.

If you want a long engine life take it easy for about 500 miles, then change the oil.Don't go WOT till after 800 miles.

Yes,engine builders go WOT on the engine dyno with a new motor but they only drag the motor's so they are not built to last 100k miles

Yes I have heard of the 500 then 800 thing! But what about on the chassis dyno? That dyno puts "load" oon the wheels to measure RWHP right! And 500and 800miles is alot for some of us!

Heat cycles are more important than miles.

This is what I do-

Start engine, let it idle while filling cooling system and everything is up to temp. Let engine cool down. Change oil.

Drive car on the street or dyno. I make a few pulls at 1/2 throttle from around 2500-4500, letting off the gas so the engine compression brakes back down to 2,500, than go 3/4 throttle from 2,500-5,500 letting the engine compression brake. Change oil.

Let the engine cool down.

After that, I tune it at WOT.

Once the engine is first started, it soon needs to see a load in order for the rings to seat properly.

If a fresh engine is started up and 'babied' for hundreds of miles, the rings will never seal as well as they could have.
