Default Tuning Question for FI, kind of...

Looking at the available kits out with boost, is there any of the Piggyback/Standalone ECMs that can store two different tunes for a stret tune and race tune rather than plug in laptop and reflasht using Edit? Reading in the foes mag (MM&FF) about superchips if I recall, having a switchable tune to run a mild street tune and then a hotter tune for racing, these are preprgammed as chips I believe, not sure. Just thought along with the boost controllers this would make a very nice addition. SC could use something like this also, change pullies, flip the switch and away you go.

Thanks

Charlie

That was probaly about SCT, as they have a 4 bank 4 position chip out that allows you to store 4 files on 1 chip, and flip on the fly (reccomended change at idle)

Since the LS1 is like the newer fords, where there is no chip, you need to flash the vehicle, so there is no way to do this.

however, a properly tuned vehicle, with maf sensor that isn't saturated 11250 98's or 12,000 on the 99+ cars, will allow you to up the boost, and have the fueling increase, and timing decrease (as load increases) to acomplish what your asking for.

Ryan, I know Edit and HPT doesnt have that ability, wasnt sure about BS3 though. Seems like after all this time the tuner community would have something like our nemisis has had.

As for use, the reason I am asking, I see all these ppl (mostly turbo) have a 8psi tune, and then later they retune for 13psi or whatever. Is the turbo (and centrifugal blowers) need a different tune because of the Boost vs.Load vs.RPM vs.Temp etc is rarely the same for X amount of boost? I would think that if you tuned a Turboed car for say 20psi max, you should be able to run a street tune of 8#s with the same AFR at WOT/PT since its using a MAF to read amount of air, is this the case or no?

Since the stock PCM uses a 1 bar MAP, your SD tuning would need to be adjusted. As for the MAF, you are mostly correct, but I believe these later model PCM's use the VE tables for throttle transitions and who knows what else. I would also hate to rely solely on the MAF, because I'm not sure what would happen if it went out at WOT while running a tune designed for lower boost. I'm guessing a potentially catastrophic lean condition could occur. This is just a guess, I haven't personally seen it happen.

the maf will get saturated at the low boost levels with the current mafs available, so im not sure how it would react.

The three stages of N2O control on this Gen 7 can map fuel and spark when activated and they are hardware controlled (+12v) plus TPS/MAP/rpm controlled, or a combination of the three if you wish, so you could have a switch for a different tunes/fuel.
