Default ATI D-1SC Prereqs?

Having issues getting my technical questions answered by any sales reps of reputable tuning shops, they all offer installs, and wont really give me any info on a DIY install of the Procharger. I've been told numerous different stories about how I'd need to either stroke the engine or Rebuild the internals in order to handle 8PSI of boost from the Procharger, which I don't exactly believe seeing as I've seen stock LS6 and LS1 motors handle more than that with an assortment of bolt on and valvetrain upgrades. Given that I'm sure someone here has experience with the installation and configuration of the D-1SC i had a few questions

Vehicle I'd be installing it on would be a '98 Camaro SS btw

1. Do I need to strengthen the internals or change the pistons in order to accomodate the increased combustion pressure?
2. Can't I lower the compression of the engine by changing the cylinder heads enough to accomodate the D-1SC
3. According the ATI literature, there was an article in corvette fever that claimed the D-1SC's installation was more complicated than the P-1SC, howso?
4. What would be an adequate head/cam configuration for the procharger that would work nicely with the increased boost pressure?
5. To compensate for the increased engine temperatures would a better radiator be adviseable? I've only seen the slp radiator, but it seems to be well priced, though I don't know how effective it would be... Reason I ask is because I noticed a number of LS1 owners on this forum didn't mention an upgraded cooling system with similar setups.

Thank you for your time, it'd help me out a lot if I could get these questions answered.

1) No, but its always nice to do...you will do it sooner or later...boost gets addicting and you will want more, more means forged internals. I ran 12psi with an occasional shot of N2O(50hp) on my stock 98 block with no ill effects. I had over 40000mi of s/c use on my stock block. When we pulled it apart all looked fine...except for the cam bearings. I wanted to go faster and push more boost so I built up an LS6 block with forged internals to help get my goals accomplished.

2)Yes, you can get 6.0 truck heads(317 castings) and lower the compression to 9.5 or 9.7 to 1...somewhere in that range if I remember right. Tuning is key to making a stock block live under boost, so find the best you can and your motor will live quite long if you treat it well.

3) Nope the D1-SC bolts in the same place as the P1-SC, so installing a D1-SC isn't more complicated at all as nothing is different other than the headunit.

4)6.0 heads with a slight port and polish, and talk to one of our great sponsors to rec a cam...FMS or ThunderRacing are always helpful when it comes to cam selection.

5)I run a stock radiator, never had overheating issues with the ATI kit.

Hope this helps...its advice and not scripture so take it FWIW.

yeah, i was gonna say, i was running 10# boost on stock internals. no problems there. as frcefed98 said, its all in the tune to make it last.
Also, i think aftermarket radiators for us are really a waste of $ since ive never had or ever seen anyone having cooling problems.
I agree with fed98 again.... boost is addicting.....i have built a forged and lowered comp. ls1 too take alot more abuse

and lastly have some cash on the side for a new tranny and rear end....it seems a lot of FI guys do that, but I think it depends on your driving habits

Default thanks

Thanks a lot ofr your input. And yes, I intended to replace the rearend with a 12 bolt Moser.. and get a spec stage 3 clutch... As for the fuel system what would be sufficient for Fuel for 8lbs? as for tuning I'm assuming you folks mean computer tuning? I was going to get the car dyno tuned, as I know slim to none about LS1edit or how to edit obdII bin files. Anyways thanks again for the suggestions... I also heard AFR heads would be an acceptable way to lower compression, as an alternative to the 6.0 Truck heads. and I intend to upgrade the pushrods and other basic internals...
