Default Header material choices...experts inside

Im going to reproduce the CAS kit for my car and im wondering what kind of material i should use for the headers and downpipes. I have heard from several sources that the Stainless Steel CAS headers will crack over time.

Should i make them out of mild steel and get them jet hot coated? Will they last a long time if there coated?

Another option is to go with 304 or 416 Stainless but im kinda worried about them cracking because of the 5 to 1 thermal expansion compared to mild steel.

What do you guys think i should do.....

304 will last if built right but 321 is always the best just expensive.

321 stainless. hands down if you want quality and light weight. Titanium if you want the best on the planet. you wont have a problem with cracking with stainless as long as you use stainless throuought your project, including the flanges and the tubes, and build the header to be self supporting.

I agree! Just finish fabricating a set with 321 for the Chevy 2 project. Bit more money but worth the expense!
