Default Intercooler Testing??

Even though this is my first post, I've been reading this board for about a year and have come to appreciate the knowlageable people here. I also cruise a lot of other boards, picking up bits of information about turbos, blowers, intercoolers,etc....needless to say I thought I knew a little about intercoolers and how to test them. I came across this discussion....

http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/sho...hreadid=140722

and for the life of me I can't figure out what the heck is going on! Can anyone decypher what was presented in layman's terms? Thanks!

damn that is like buick version of ls1tech! they are serious and down and dirty.

Spark Notes: Cotton's intercoolers better than Precission.

however the precision went 3 more psi at the same setting the 3" pipes VS the 2.5 of the Eastern. My car has went a best of 10.35 and I would think the cotton is the best one on the market .if you are not running that much air through the motor then why does it matter.if you are running in the 8s and low to mid 9s i would go with cottons for sure.if you are thinking of upgrading an existing mid 10 second car to cottons over a precision Id save my money.hope this helps .You need the air pump to fill it up...... bigger is not always better. Also remember the bigger the IC the more Static pressure the turbo needs to overcome
Spark Notes: The precision i/c didn't flow as well and (if im reading this correctly) it showed 3psi more of pressure between the i/c and turbo due to poor flow. (I might have that completely mixed up though).

If your going to run a front mount, then IMO, run one with as much frontal area as possible, so once the car's speed get high enough, it will word to really cool the intake charge temp.. From about 60 MPH, I always maintain (in really hot weather) or drop plenum temps with the Cotton's.
Spark Notes: Bigger is better. Once the car gets up to speed it will cool better, and this guy has 1st hand experience getting colder i/c temps at 60+mph.

I have not been going there much as of late, but there are a lot of sharp folks on that board.
