Default Is it worth the money to... :)

So in March I have a lot of money coming, birthday money, tax return, plus whatever money i will have saved. Right now i need to build my t56 first, but in march I was thinking, For my project I am doing

224/230 114lsa FM7 cam
adjustable double timing chain
Blueprinted oil pump
What valve springs can hold? <---- need help
Good retainers
6.0L heads stock heads unless I can get them cleaned up cheap
Would it be worth it to pull the entire engine and get some better rods, pistons, and rings? How much do you think it would cost to have a shop just put in new pistons with the rings and such. I will do everything else. The problem is i figure when I do that I will of coarse add more boost but that means I need to upgrade the fuel system. What should i do. Money is a HUGE issue. Planning on moving into a house in summer, so I need money. Thanks for the help.

There isn't enough information in your post. Is it worth the money to accomplish what? Do you want to attain 600hp...700hp? How many miles are on your motor? What motor do you have now and why do you want to upgrade your existing motor? If your current motor is handling 493rwhp, I say save your money and upgrade when your current motor has too many miles on it or the pistons start slapping.

Cars are the worst investment. If you plan on moving into a new house and are the sole owner, you should probably save your money. Especially if the house isn't new. Home ownership is NOT cheap.

My block has 55k on it now. My boost spikes up to 9 lbs. I want to accomplish a lot of hp. next winter I plan on switching to a turbo system and changing some stuff around. I am just not sure wheather my engine will last in Florida summer heat. So i didn't know wheather methane injection 6.0l heads and a good cam would help enough. So i didn't know if it would be cheap enough to just have pistons and rods replaced while i have the engine torn down just to rip it out.

Also what valve springs are best to handle that cam and some good beating.

Im running patriot dual valve springs and have never heard of one breaking...... good to .650 lift.
Ill give my input on the rest tomorrow when im not so tired......

I just switched to PR dual springs with Titanium retainers which is what Texas Speed sells. I had the 918's before and they were doing fine with the FM7 cam and 8psi, but the dual springs are extra insurance.

its not the heat you have to worry about. when it gets cold with teh fronts moving in, then you have issues to worry about. thats when you gain a couple of lbs of boost which may not be compinsated by the MAF.

That right there is exactly why i went with BS3......


For the mean time i would do what you said and go with a set of 6.0L heads. You can find a good ported set for not to much..... and they will help YOU in two ways.... 1st they will lower your compression down to about 9.5-9.6:1 and 2nd they will flow better then your stock heads so boost should drop.... less restriction..... because i know you are seeing more boost then you want to right now. Im is San Antonio right now to when i get home this evening chat with me on AIM and we can chat about how much you have to play with........ getting a good set of heads now is not going to hurt you down the road..... because for one you still need them...... so later when your ready to build a forged short block you dont have to worry about buying the heads....... I know APE is having a short block sale right now and there cheap street 347 is like $2300. Ill be home this evening man.
