Default STS Oil pump Problem * HELP * ?!?!?!?

OK I was driving into work JUST a few minutes ago and this is what happened. I decided to boost the car up in 3rd just to see if the Oil pump would switch to High and I blew the Oil Pump Fuse. Luckily I was close enough that I was able to smoke my way into work BUT Now I am obviously concerned.

The First part of this week I installed a Light to show me when the oil Pump was running on HIGH. It was sounding like it was running on High when I was just crusing around. With the light installed I was able to determine that It was going to high and after a little more trouble shooting I determined that the Switch was bad. I ordered one From STS but its not hear yet>? They told me that having the Pump run on High would not hurt anything so I figured I would be cool till the New switch came in.

I noticed today that it was not switching to High at all. Considering all week it was running on High most of the time it was a noticeable change. On the way to work today I wanted to get into a little boost to see if the switch would jump the pump up to high? Instead all it did was blow the fuse?

SO hear is MY dilemma. I can and will replace the switch (when it comes in) and replace the fuse/add some oil(to replaced what just went threw the turbo) BUT I was wondering why did the Fuse blow? Just wondering if any of you had an Idea because the switch going bad doesn’t seem like it would cause the fuse to blow BUT don’t know? Any ideas? Tell me if you have seen this problem B4?

Thanks, Lata, Arkangel77

that is something you really need to take care of before you drive anymore dude.
your pump might be bad, the transistor might be bad...

good luck and be sure you take care of that **** before something happens!

Default YEs I know

I just poped a 10A fuse and the pump dident even think about running?

SO then I put a 20A in there just too see what would happen and the pump ran for about 1/2 of a sec and then it blew that fuse as well.

I am thinking that something has failed. I gota call the toe truck now (thank God for AAA) and I will get to trouble shoot this on my next days off. I was thinking maybe oil Pump BUT there is NO way to Know till I get to work on it?

Its not killing me that this happened BUt I am hoping that there is some sort of warranttee on the part that failed ( I know thats a joke). I just had to BUY the pressure switch that went bad and now I may have to BUy a new oil pump? That just plain sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only got like 3000 miles on this kit MAX!

STS offers a one year warranty. All you have to do is call them.

Don't drive without the pump running. Didn't the buzzer go off?

Ark -- the fuse in the line that grabs 12v power is what blows? Is the big heat sinked resistor working? If that resistor is bad, you can connect all three wires that go to the hobbs switch on the line that comes from the TB / intake to one terminal on the hobbs switch (should be 2 on one terminal and a red wire going to the other). That will put the pump on high mode until you can get that resistor fixed.

YES the buzzer went off!

I am not driving it. I just got home from my tow truck trip!

YES the inline fuse for the pump is what blew. Not sure what is or is not working at this point, I think the resister was/is working?

I connected all 3 wires and it just continued to blow the fuses?

Thanks for the help, trouble shooting will start as soon as I get a day off. I must go back to work now! Thanks, Lata, Ark

If your kit was never running before and you fuse keeps blowing. Dave @ STS told me that they had some manufacturing issus with some of the wiring harness and the wires were getting crossed in the plug that connects the front and back harnesses together.

The system was up and running on the car for a little while now. I thought I mentioned that B4? I don't think that the harness is to blame BUT we will see?

When you put the light on to see if the pump went high, did you make sure you didn't put the ground wire on the solenoid? If the ground wire is on the solenoid the motor will still run. If you start building boost, the pressure switch will fire to turn the pump to high and it will go to ground and blow the fuse. Make sure the ground is not on the solenoid. Also make sure you dont have any power to ground.

It Ran with the light hooked up for a week. If it was grounding it would have blew the fuse the instant I hooked it up. I dont think its the light and thats easy to varify by disconecting the light wire.

If I had any power wires grounded I dont think the pump would have run at all. The fact that it did run for a sec with the 20A fuse tells me that its not grounded out. I will be looking over the entire system to varify that as well as soon as I get a day off.

Thanks for the help, lata, Ark

WELL It was easy to FIx and some of you guys were right ON! It was a short BUT not in the harness. I left that test light hooked up to the hobs switch to monitor what the pump/switch was doing. The little test light was shorting inside the bulb and blowing the fuse. Thanks for the help. STS's stuff was all good! It was the poopey little test light that craped out?

Thanks again to everyone that helped me with this problem! Lata, Arkangel77
