Default HKS BOV question with ATI kit

Hello

I just purchasesd a used stock ATI kit w/a new P1 head unit. The kit I purchsed came along with a HKS blow off valve. In the ATI manual, it details how to install the stock ProFlow Anti-Surge valve, but this is not included in my kit. I can see one of the metal tubes (that comes off one of the intercoolers and connects to the metal y-tube) has a flange where the HKS BOV will be installed.

Here is a link to some pics of this BOV.

http://photos.yahoo.com/jaystan2000.

My questions are:

1. This BOV has 2 vacuum nipples. What vacuum lines to I connect to this BOV?

2. Do I need to install a filter on this blow off valve?

3. Does anyone have this type of setup? If so, do you have any pics?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

IMO there should be no need to attach anything to the lower port. Just the top one to a vacuum/boost source on the inlet manifold.

I have that set up, but I have a different BOV. I'll find some pics later and post.

OK that is the HKS BOV.... in that pic..... the pic above may be made my HKS but looks like the Vortech unit........

THE MAIN THING YOU GUYS WITH SUPER CHARGERS MUST KNOW IS A BOV IS NOT ENTENDED FOR A SUPERCHARGER...... A BYPASS VALVE IS.
I learned it the hard way.... spending the cash and having to by another one........ Just so ya know..... i thought HKS only made BOV's....

Yes this is a HKS BOV, I can take another pic so you can see the HKS stamp on top of the BOV.

Do you guys know which vacuum port I should use? I was told one port was used if you are using a wastegate. Since I am not using a wastegate. Which port should I use to connect the vacuum line to?

Thanks

That right there is why i said a BOV isnt to be used on a SC setup....... it will sound like this....
http://www.itlxlr8.com/vids/BOV.wmv

That is my Car... D1-SC, FMIC, Tial 50MM BOV....... it will chirp like crazy driving and prob drive you nuts .... a Bypass vents at cruise until it goes into boost and then it shuts.... a BOV is closed all the time and the SC is over powering it and making it chirp like that at cruise.
But hey to each his own im just trying to help.....

This question has been asked on an Oz forum too.

The 2 items whatever you want to cal them perform exactly the same function. The only difference is that a SC setup must open easier than a Turbo setup.
That is, pre-load on the BOV would normally be greater than in a SC BOV. Most large BOV's are adjustable to an extent, either by a screw on top to load up the internal spring, or by the internal springs themselves.

The top port should be used, so that inlet manifold vacuum will try and pull the BOV open, when the throttle is shut.

At first the sound didn't bug me at all, in fact I liked it. That lasted about 2 days and it started to get on my nerves.

Kyle > besides the chirping, can a BOV hurt the motor in anyway? or blower?

I just tested my Greddy RS 40mm BOV, sealing up the pipes, and feeding air with a compressor.

On its softest setting, it only starts to open and bleed pressure off at around 9-10psi. This is in a sealed system with no other pipes connected. NO pipe connected to the top side.

With vacuum connected to the top side of the BOV, I would expect it to open with about 3psi pressure in the boost/IC pipes.
This could be made to open sooner by removing one of the internal springs.

There is a good chance this BOV would be partially open at cruise, although whether thats enough to bleed enough air off, I cant say.

But if the internal spring + inlet manifold pressure isnt strong enough, then under WOT conditions, the BOV could leak.

Im not a %100 sure but it could hurt the SC with all the surging it making it do..... i dont think it gets far enough forthe motor to even feel it....

These questions seem to pop up around the same time....

Here is a guy asking a similar Q on the Oz forum about using a turbo BOV on a SC system. The valves basically the same, regardless of turbo or blower. .
