Default Okay to add the Vortec???

My '01 Z, M6 has just under 40k miles. I want to put Vortec #4GK218-080SQ
on next spring along with a pair of headers. I have heard to many horror stories about blown motors and such from boosting a motor. What are risks and would it be okay to add one at this point?

Go for it. Once you boost you'll never go back. As long as you do your homework you'll be fine. Most that blew their motors have only themselves to blame (me included).

Do the motors blow from adding too much boost??? I emailed Vortec and they have not emailed me back.....not exactly a good impression.

Do you guys recommend any other superchargers???

Youll do much better to call them. In boosted apps, its all about the tune. Well, you dont want to put 12# on a stock bottom end LS1 either

Detonation is what hurts the motors. It breaks the piston ringlands & melts pistons. It can happen quickly, in just a few seconds. Any boosted motor deals with the same issues that can quickly ruin the motor. Forged pistons buy you some insurance because they will handle more abuse (tuning accidents) before melting down. Too much timing and running lean are the enemies. So you should in my opinion first get a baseline dynotune (the program that came with my Vortech was too agressive and the car detonated. Second, make sure the air/fuel ratio stays less than 12:1 (preferably 11.5:1) throught the WOT range. Third, get a datalogger and make sure there is no detonation (zero KR) during WOT blast on the track or street. Fourth, get a wideband oxygen sensor to always monitor air/fuel ratio. Fifth, always be cautious with a Vortech on back to back WOT blast. The water in the aftercooler heats up and needs to be cooled down before doing another WOT blast. This could come into effect during back to back runs a the track or if you were playing cat & mouse on the street doing repeated WOT blast. An air/air intercooler IMO is a better way to go on a street car. So as you can see if your very cautious you should be able to boost and keep your stock block intact.

Thanks for the info!!! I'll probably just stick with headers, t.b., mass air sensor........the little things for now. I sure don't want to cause damage and $6000+ isn't that easy to come by while in school
