What Ring Gap for FI motor?

Default What Ring Gap for FI motor?

WHat ring Gaps are you guys running on your motor's? I am rebuilding a 8.5 to 1 LT1 that will see about 16lbs of boost with an Intrcooler and rear mount system. Just looking for recomendations so help me out, Please. Thanks, Lata, Ark

Here is what Mahle reccomends
.055xbore=gap
that is for forced induction, however most use a larger gap, closer to a .065 to calculate. And Kurt at W2W is saying to have the first ring gapped to what you want (ie use formula) and then add some to the second ring to make it a bit larger.

does this make any sense, I sure hope so

Yep I think I got it ! WOW that seems off!

If its a 4.0" bore times .055 that = 0.22 which seems not right? Did I mess that up? How Much More should the 2nd ring be than the first?

.0215" top ring
.025" on second

its
bore x .0055" top ring
bore x .0065" second ring

OK - I see. my first set of rings was gaped at .035" - I guess they were not too tight now were they?

I usually see guys running them on engines with gas ports but not usually on FI motors, just High compression no power adders.
