Rear mount turbo guys Hows the lag on them. I am about to purchase a setup like the sts, and am wondering how the lag is. I havent read much about the lag, people dont seem to bring it up. Just wondering how soon you reached full boost and if you noticed how much lag there was. Thanks
Mine was'nt to bad with a 4l60e and 2600 stall. It is awful with a 4l80e and stock stall. Once I get a 3000 stall I'm sure the lag will be even less of a problem than with the old set up.
The lag was not bad at all with a stock LS1, 3:23's and an M6, full boost at 2800-3000 rpms (5-10 psi is what I was running) I put 3:73's with my 12 bolt and the boost did not come on untill 3300. The more load and faster you can put a load on the turbo the sooner you boost. The longer gears like the 3:23's seem to be the better set up with an M6. But for me now with 370cid and the 3:73's I boost at 2500-2800 rpms. The extra cubes and running speed density seem to help a lot. Also if you do run the STS go back to your stock 98 manifolds. I started out with Hooker LT's and the small exhaust leaks and pressure of the LT's did not boost well. When I put the exhaust manifolds on the exhaust pressure equalizes much better which creates a load faster resulting in faster boost. Hope this helps

My lag was pretty bad, but I used a Holset H2D on my custom kit. I was still very happy with it though once the boost kicked in. The 60-1s that STS uses on the base kit spool quickly. There are some very quick STS cars (and trucks) out there.
I just spent the weekend building a new kit like the Phamspeed budget and it made quite a difference in spoolup.
