Default Twin turbo Chevelle update!

I finally made a little more progress on my '71 ls1 powered twin turbo Chevelle. I have a few welds to finish up on the down pipes, plumb the turbo oil system, wire the motor, hook up the intercooler tubes and I am about done.
ALOT of welding on this baby! I am on my 4th tank of argon!! The intercooler and headers took the longest. I only have about a week of work left, but with my schedule, it will take 3. I can't wait!

The turbos are turbonetics 60-1 hi fi's with a .68 A/R. They have a 2.75" inlet and 2 inch outlet. I have dual 3" to the bumper. I have fenderwells, I have the drivers out right now for some wiring.

My goal is to have it running in the middle of august. I will have welding complete this week and then it's wiring time! I hope it makes good power, I never had an ls1 before, I am a SBC guy, so I guess I will have to see! I am glad I built it myself, I bet this kit would be $15,000 if I were to have someone else build it. Needless to say it was very cheap to build. I had the luxury of buying parts over a 8 month period so I saved alot by finding good deals.

GORGEOUS! Just one question... why did you run the downpipes over the engine instead of under it (near the street)??

Hot much do you have in it, if you care to say? I need to learn how to weld... How'd you do your pipe bends? Local muffler shop and then cut, fit, and weld?

I have more pics, but I have to spend some time and edit them to fit on this board first.

Well, as far as how did I make the bends? I bought (12) U-bends, cut'em up and that is how I made the headers. They are 1.75" 321 stainless. The flanges were very complicated to design and I actually had them drawn up on Solidworks for a 3-D model and made paper templates to wrap around the tubes to get the correct cuts. Saved me about $900!!!

I ran the downpipes ( I guess I should call them up-pipes!) up over the headers because with a full chassis Chevelle I had no other route. I was'nt about to mount them below the crossmember.

As far as total turbo setup cost, I have almost $5000 invested, Was not cheap. And that was getting stuff at unbelievable prices.

I will be tuning the car myself with my EfiLive setup and wideband at the track, although, if anyone would like to donate some files of a similar setup to get me going, I sure would'nt complain!

I'd be happy to share any info with anyone. I was very easy, just very time consuming!

Here is a little breakdown:
347" ls1
-8.1:1 compression
-TEA stage 2 heads
-LS6 Intake
-Comp cam
-Twin 60-1 hi-fi turbos
-Twin Turbonetics Racegates
-Tial 50mm bov
-Spearco 1500 cfm intercooler
-1.75" 321 headers
-3" dual exhaust
-Turbosmart boost controller
-96 lb injectors
-Stock pcm

And a whole bunch of other minor little stuff that would take me a day to list!

I am hoping to see about 700 rwhp on pump gas and about 850-900 rwhp on race gas, but it really does'nt matter as long as the car will spin the tires from a stop light.
