Cat as in meow, or cat as in converter?

I have a t 70 with a .96 A/R right now. Its a p-trim turbine wheel. I was gonna sell it with the motor. I would like to do a garrett ballbearing turbo. I'd save up the extra money for one of those. what would be a good garrett equivilant for something around a t 70 or so?

John, there is an air consumtion chart somewhere for a stock LS1 -- if you plan on using the stock heads/cam, we can look at it and try to size a turbo. I'm sure these guys will be able to chime in as well.

I would stick n/a until you can afford forged internals. There is a ton of fabrication involved and you may run into cooling problems. If you have a horizontally mounted Koyo/Fluidyne radiator and vertically mounted intercooler that should provide enuf cooling.... but since it has only been done a few times and no real information shared aside from performance keep this in mind

I make 440rwhp with 91 octane and have retained the excellent handling. It should go 128mph in the 1/4 n/a and 140mph+ on nitrous.

If you plan to drag race and limit yourself to 500rwhp and built another forged block as a backup plan your turbo plan would be a good setup. Be aware you will be pretty much tractionless in 1-3rd gear. 3:90 auto gears out back may help a little... but in reality you need a 3:07 or 3:27 gear out back meaning a custom rear end isntalled. (Viper or Cobra Mustang)

Torquecentral.com has a V8RX7 section FYI. I would use the search feature on there for a few hours as there a few guys building creations such as what you intend. A stock LS1 block/crank with $350 Eagle rods, good forged pistons $600, stock main caps should be good for 750rwhp+ with proper tuning. Obviously lower compression is a must. Boost equals power... better octane gas and more timing will yield more power just like in any forced induction setup.

With custom offset rims you can fit a 285/30/18 up front BTW.

500rwhp rotary vs. a 500rwhp LS1 will get its *** handed to it. They are very different cars. A 430rwhp LS1/FD will run high 10's with traction n/a. A 100-150hp nitrous shot should put you in the 9's. A T76/LS1 could certainly go low 10's and 9's if not faster at full tilt.

Good luck,

-Mark

thanks for the input. I was unaware that the car would be that fast with 440rwhp. That is very impressive.

I am not just building a car for the drag strip though. I want to build a fun fast reliable car. I will drag race it some, but it will mainly be a street car.

I will have to keep the ls1 stock for a while anyway because being in college I don't have the funds to do much more than getting the ls1 in the car by itself. by the end of next summer I should be able to turbocharge it. I am really set on the turbo too. I love the way it feels and sounds. everyone knows to back off when the hear the whoosh! (not to sound like a ricer).

that said, for now my goal will be 500whp. I have read about alot of people with that on the stock bottom end. The reason I set a 500whp bench mark is to keep myself from spending more money than I have.

I have been on the torquecentral forum as well, and have found alot of great info from them.

I don't really know what 500whp will do to me. I will have to get there gradually so I dont kill myself. Im only 19 and I havent really driven that many high-horsepower cars. Brysons 400whp fiero and my rx7 are probably the fastest I've been wide open in. I just want to reach this safely.

thanks again for the great info, and sorry about the length of the post
