Default single turbo ???

Hey guys, Im looking into putting a single turbo ls1 in my 93 rx7. I wont have the money for forged internals so its all gonna be on the stock motor. I dont want lag, and Im shooting for 500whp. I will use a frontmount IC. I dont plan on running more than 8psi. I want a smaller turbo to prevent lag, but I still want it to be efficient. I would like suggestions on what turbo/cam I should use to keep the car reliable and streetable but still reach my goal if it is possible...thanks.

or a 70 trim if you want room to expand a little more. 67 trim will be more efficient though since your using most of the turbo.

Well right now the car still has the rotary in it and I have a t-70 on that...lots of lag, but its till pretty fast. It just breaks to much. I will most likely sell the t-70 with the motor when Im ready to do the swap. it has a p-trim turbine wheel. thanks for the input.

how bout a good cam?

a 67 or bigger turbo would be ok, id stick with the stock cam, it will work fine with good drivabilty and make good power.
the 67 would probably hit the 8psi by 2000rpms would would make a ton of torque.
my small frame T76 would hit full boost (10psi) by 2650rpms
oh and as long as you mount it up front, if its in the butt be ready for some lag.

also keep in mind that your rotary motor is only 1.8 or 1.3 liter right?

the ls1 is a 5.7 liter 350(well 346 if you wanna get technical) so i dont think you will see anywhere near the amount of lag on the ls1 that you do on your rotary motor.

Well its kinda hard to figure for a rotary, ive heard that its more like a 2.6l, but it has exhauhst pulses like a big six cylinder. I reach 12psi by around 4000rpm...and when you've got till 8000rpm its pretty quick. not much for torque though...

well my first motor went because of a coolant o-ring on the inside (between the rotor housing and the center iron housing). the second one went because of using a used housing, and there was a hairline fracture where the a presurized oil fitting for the turbo went into the front iron housing. as it heated up, the crack got bigger until I got on it one day and it split open covering the road and my entire engine compartment in oil.

the most common thing is the apex seals. when one of those go they get thrown around the motor tearing up everything they tough. they are the equivilant of a ring, but are subject to more stress especially with boost and detonation. sorry I wrote so much about a motor that yall dont care about. just had alot of bad luck with it.

Even with a 70-76 turbo the LS1 will spin it up pretty damn fast. The Z06 cam would be a good turbo cam also.
How much tire you plan to stuff under the rear of that thing?

just as big as I can fit. for the street. I think I can fit up to about 275s, but IM not really sure. Ill get some drag tires fot the stock wheels when I save up enough to get some aftermarket ones. and thanks for the cam tip.

my question still stands...is 500whp possible at 8psi?

Yes, I would imagine that with a T 70 or T 76 turbo and a .96 A/R housing 500 hp would be no problem at 8psi. With the front mount 'cooler 10 psi should not be a problem .

I found this cool pic....the Apex seals are what seals the CC... they are at the end of the rotars and the only thing that makes contact inside there..... and not to mention that they are the scourge of rotor lovers.
