currently i have a forged shortblock, TEA stage 1.5 5.3 heads milled 10, 578/564 cam on a 112 lsa. compression is around 11.5cr could i buy a set of low compression pistons and keep the heads or am i going to have to buys a set of 6.0 heads. not going over 12 psi on a customs kit. i know the cam needs to go for something along a 114 lsa am i correct on that. any suggestions welcome. You should be able to get the CR down low enough with pistons to be fine.

Call up one of the sponsors and they can give you more details.

if your pistons are flat top style then it would probably be cheaper for you to just sell your heads and buy 6.0 heads, rather than spend the money to get your block taken apart and rebuilt with low compression pistons. If you have a domed piston you will most likely need new ones.

To answer your question- you could quite easily lower your compression enough to keep your current heads, but it would be alot of work and money, IMO, I would just get bigger chambered heads.

You haven't said whether you are going turbo or supercharger, but I agree with LSONE, get some FI heads and get a cam that is optimized for your application and the flow numbers of the heads. All this will depend on your power goals and what you want the car for; mostly strip w/some street, or mostly street w/some strip, all strip, etc. Be advised, FI is not cheap. Even 450 rwhp can be several thousand including drivetrain mods, fuel system upgrade etc. Do your homework, make a plan, count the cost, double it, and you should be in the ballpark. Good luck!

Are you also including machine work to rebalance the rotating assembly, install and gap the rings, torque block hone if necessary, break in all over again to seat the new rings?
Besides, cheaper isn't necessarily better. If you change pistons, you are pretty much committed unless you want to change pistons and rebalance, etc. yet again. With a head swap, you can always go back, or on to something different without disturbing the bottom end.
