belt breakers
belt breakers I'm one of those guys who still hasn't boosted. As I have ruled out nitrous, I'm wondering if you supercharger guys are still breaking a lot of belts thus making the car an unreliable daily driver. It certainly seems as if the STS isn't having daily driver issues. Chime in.
As far as breaking belts, Ive got 15,000 miles on my original belt in less then a year. I drive it everyday anywhere from 25-100 miles daily. The supercharger belt breaking is the last thing on my mind.
I think guys crank up the tension to keep from slipping on higher boost settings and thats alot of stress for a 6 rib that was really only made to be snugged my the spring loaded tensioner.
Plus, in the unlikely event you do break a belt, you can still drive the car. The s/c will act like a governor and not allow you to run more than 4k, or so, and the computer will lean things out enough to make continued driving no problem. You wouldn't want to go on a 500 mile trip, hot rod it, or drive it unnecessarily, but it doesn't hurt to drive it until you can get another belt on it.
The best option would be to go to an 8 rib setup like SDCE's. It is the overwhelming favorite for getting better grip at reduced belt pressure. That takes the stress off everything, including you.

perhaps it was a mustang thing. My friend put a procharger on a 00 GT and we wouldn't ever be able to drive two weeks without a belt breaking. By the way, somehow I was still able to outrun him, at least 2/3 runs. (but this was on the street)
