By the time the crank is machined up, balanced and etc it'll cost you at least another 500-700 over whatever you paid for it.

? I have not even posted to this thread. But I've made 754rwhp with a stock crank. I'm thinking over 900 crank hp.

that would be wrong sir,the shortblock i got included all "machined up,balanced, etc". and just for arguments sake lets add $500 to the $750 for the crank,so thats $1250 for a forged and balanced crank, correct?still blows the hell out of $4000 for rods!

Lunati Pro Billet Rods, Lunati Pro Billet Crank, Wiseco ceramic coated pistons are the choice I am running. My project goal is 1000+rwhp or bust.

Well, I like driving four plus hours to the track under air condition and get there and take out the luggage and rip off some nice runs and after the track closes put my luggage in the back and drive to the hotel and get a good nite sleep and go back home four plus hours at 20 plus miles per gallon. I just simply love it.. The MOON.....when they get a dragstrip and maybe put a C5R wing on my vette...hmmm I am game.. I will try it .. if you insist.. You got a better plan? or a better setup for trouble free operation? Let's hear it... don't just criticize.. optimize!!!!

Jim, this is my take on it. The Stock Crank is an excellent, if not one of the all time best cranks EVER made! It WILL handle the power, and has. No one in their right mind would "recommend" it, if not from a sales point, then liability. I have customers, if you will, that ask what Nitrous kit I would recommend for them, and I tell them I dont recommend nitrous....however, I do list the parts I have installed on my car, or others, and my opinion of them. As it is now, my forged shortblock was built for heavy nitrous use, and I hope that all goes well, I can put down near that mark. When it was planning time, I asked for retention of the stock crank for economy and reliability issues.
I agree if you have the money to throw at it, it would be a smart thing to do, for insurance reasons. But, I do not feel if setup properly it is required or REALLY NEEDED.

The rest, Callies, Oliver, etc type rods, and JE, Wiseco Diamond pistons, however I might build a 347 using Mahle's to see how they handle power.
