Default Figuring out my KR problems....

last year I was seeing KR at various times under various conditions, and this year with the new engine, cam, headers, etc... I'm seeing the same thing.

I was looking at old autotap logs, here's a typical one from July (hot out!)
(all at WOT)

.RPM...ITA...IAT...KR
(2ND GEAR)
3558...26....147...0
4145...21.5..151...0
4784...20....154...0
5430...21....160...1.4
6027...21.5..167...2.6
(SHIFT)
4107...19.5..183...2.2
4444...19.5..189...1.8
4646...16....183...3.9
4838...16.5..180...3.3
5041...18....180...2.8
5244...18.5..183...3.9

just a small sampling, I was monitoring too many things. I don't think the timing is amazingly high, I should be able to run at least 20 degrees, I would think.

I am seeing similar things now, with IATs much lower. I didn't have headers before, and this is an automatic. so I don't think anything was banging.

I do have my car a little "rigged" in that my FMU isn't so much mounted to the car as it is hanging, could rattling that far away from the engine cause false knock???

You may want to consider a water/alky system.
My iat's at 10psi in the summer were 100 degrees with no intercooler using the water/alky.On a 60 degree day they were 85 degrees at 10psi.
That is a serious drop in temps.Just blipping the gas for 3psi and not triggering the water system I would see 140 degrees.
The water/alky dropped temps about 100 degrees at full boost.
I was running up to 28 degrees timing as well.
Your KR sensors may or may not be triggering falsely for you. Some 112octane should be able to rule that out for you.

Oh , and I would stay clear of n20 for a intercooler effect unless you have a decent set of pistons and wide ring end gaps. It's a great intercooler and I have run dual poweradders in the past. But it's tricky to manage them both without damage.

I'm waiting till the tank gets close to empty and I'll fill up on 100 octane, see if that helps. then I guess I can add something to bump the octane up higher and see what happens.
does my timing seem low even without the KR? I know this has been discussed before, but what should I look for timing-wise with boost?

It looks like the normal range for stock a4 programming.Stock advance is right around24 degrees and your right there if you add back the KR.
I was swapping back and forth last year between 18 degree max superchips and 28 degree max hpp3.
I saw same retard with both curves. I have trigger happy sensors <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">
But the power difference at 28 vs 18 is dramatic.
But I would not run that much timing with your high IAT's as that is an invitaion to detonation.
