Default Turbo quirks..

Ok, I just felt I would get everyone's opinion.

Unfortunately, I had the engine in my T/A replaced due to a hydrolock with (supposedly) a LS1 out of a 2000+ Corvette (this is irrelevant). Prior to the swap, I had no problems.. everything was perfect. Since the swap, I've noticed the following:

- Once I got it back, it had a tendency to blow plumes of smoke (oil?) out the exhaust when shifting at WOT @ full boost. I assumed the seals in the turbo had blown, but an inspection showed the turbo was fine (impeller and all). So, I installed an oil scavange pump, which seems to have fixed the problem. This confuses me, because originally it was gravity fed and working fine.. now it needs a pump?? Ideas?

- Oil pressure. I now notice my oil pressure fluctuates often. Once I start the car cold, it hang out around 40-45 but once it warms up it drops as low as 20 (never below, but it does rest on 20), and it bobs around. However, when I got WOT it screams past 40 and holds around 45, until I let off and resume normal driving, in which it drops back down. What is normal operating range? Anyone else experience this? Honestly, I never really payed strict attention before the engine swap, so I don't really know what to compare to.

- Fuel pressure. The fuel system is stock w/ the exception of a walbro intank pump. The FP gauge sits at 59-60, but ticks back and forth.. is this normal? if it's at 59, it'll tick down to 58 then back to 59, etc.. like a second hand on a clock.

- Power steering. Now my power steering in whining.. only when I take sharp turns. I doubt this is turbo related, just merely a coincidence. But it sounds like a damn Ford now. I noticed the fluid is low, but no leaks/puddles that I can find... ideas?

That's about it, for now. The car does seem to be running fine, however.. it's just these little (or seem to be little) things ticking away in the back of my mind that are driving me crazy. Any input is appreciated.

BTW, I have the T-60 Stage I Turbo Tech.

i can assume that your oil pump is not bad...but pretty close. talk to a sponsor about getting a new one or at least switch to some heavier oil to keep a little more pressure. then add some PS fluid, and i have no clue on the gravity vs. pump oil deal, but its prolly due to you lack of pressure.

What type of oil are you running? Mine does that with 10W30(cause of the turbos I believe). I fixed it with 15w50 . No problems at all now .

Hrm, I use Mobil 1 10W30 (Fully Synthetic). Perhaps I will try that, and see if it does the job. Thanks!

Well, I'd like to be sure the oil pump needs replacing. It's rather expensive, and a timely process.. I would hope to be 100% sure before I resort to that, but thanks. I've added PS fluid already, but I would like to track down the problem as to not have it continually happen.

Thanks for all your input! I hope to see more opinions, as this is boggling.
