can i get rid of my extra injectors?
i have a whipple, it came with 2 extra injectors that mount right where the throttle body used to be. they are controled by an independant whipple computer.
my 8 stock injectors are showing a 130% duty cycle with o2's droping to .85 at the end of a run. i don't like not knowing what those 2 injectors are doing so can i go and buy a set of 8 larger injectors and get rid of the 2 extra? wouldn't this be a better set up especialy now that i am begining to do more than just the whipple?

YES!!!
I saw your other post about the flow rating in LS1 Edit for the stock injectors. Looks like stock truck injectors are about 21 lb/hr. Tiny!!
Get some 30's or 36's in there, and tune them in w/ LS1 Edit.
I'm pricing out the parts for my truck, and injectors are in there. The only concern is the connectors on the truck injectors. I've been digging on the packard site to find a mating connector for the small injector plugs on the trucks. I need to make a jump to the normal injector clip.
I'm looking at the ATI for my 5.3, w/ ASM long tubes and a nice cam, then maybe have my old LS1 heads worked and bolt them up for a further drop in CR and pulley up Big injectors for me, no FMU here
After all, ya gotta have a stout tow vehicle

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
The other thought is to replace the two injectors w/ larger ones there. So when they activate, they dump more fuel in. Then fine tune with LS1 edit via your normal 8 injectors to get o2s correct.

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
y2khawk.. i am looking into the 8.1 injectors from trucks, i emailed magna charger and this is the injector that they add to their 5.3 kit so i know that they drop right in. I don't know the size of that injector, no one seems to know, maybe you have a source?? if i can't find the size i think i will just go and buy one and do a flow test of my own. do you know the diference between the car and truck injectors? from what i understand they are completly diferent but if it is just the conector then i will get some off a car and splice them onto my truck unless the 8.1's turn out to be large enuff.
i think i need larger then 30lb, as soon as i get some headers and exhaust i should be close to 500fwhp and might shoot for heads and cam next(600fwhp?) i am thinking 36 or 42lb

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
big tex, i dont think that would work, the pcm is asking for a 130% duty cycle now, i don't think larger whipple injectors would help that. i wouldn't mind knowing how whipple decides how much fuel to add, is it based on the maf and rpm or just the o2's? I am prety set on geting rid of those 2 injectors,

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
Well, 42's took the car to near 600 RWHP. So they should work
Gotta remember the manifold was never designed to flow wet. You may be getting the fuel in the motor, but distribution is and unknown.
I may be able to find the injector sizes for all setups(4.8/5.3, 6.0, and 8.1) will dig tomorrow.

Damn, i never even thought of that!! another reason to get rid of the whipple injectors.

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
My thought for you was to replace the stock injectors w/ 8.1L injectors, then check out your O2s. If you need more, then make the 2 aux injectors larger.

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
come on Harlin, i know you can get this done for me. i absolutely need to know what size the 8.1 injectors are.
i called the dealer today and got a part number, AC Delco 17124531, this number was also confirmed by magna charger. neither one of them can tell me what size it is. then i tried calling RC engenering, they didn't know what a 8.1 injector flows and they didn't have any info on that part number but it seemed like they tried to look it up.
RC engenering told me they can custom make me any injector that i want. they also thought a car injector would fit even if the electricl conection is wrong but they are not sure.
the list price at my local dealer for a 8.1 injector is $105.21. not sure how much that would really cost, the custom injectors from RC are something like $640 a set.

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
the info i found has the 8.1 injectors at 3.7 g/s
But the hot ticket is the flex fuel 5.3L, not sure if they are availible yet though. 4.1 g/s
I'll double check the part number you got. But can't do it till the morning

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
Hmmm...This interesting. I had no idea the trucks used different type injectors/plugs.
Harlan if you find connectors to adapt to a regular car injector please let me know. I was thinking of putting SVO 30# injectors in my truck project. The 5.3L flex fuel might work but they would be running at a pretty high duty cycle. The SVO's would give a little extra room on the duty cycle.
Thanks
John

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
thanks for the info, unfortunately it isn't what i was hoping to hear. from what i understand i need some 36lb injectors just to get me by right now, i am hoping to be around 500fwhp once i get all my parts in and tuned. i could see some engine work next year and be looking at 600hp with some more cubes or heads and cam ot both so some 42's would be even better.
looks like i need to look at what it will take to get the car injectors to work or a set of custom made units.

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
got another one for ya harlan
on a post in the truck section someone said that the 5.3 flex fuel injectors are only ran at 40psi he even put a guage on his truck and confirmed it. i wonder if that effects the number that you gave me, 4.1gm/sec? or has that all ready been adjusted for our 59psi?
it would be sweet if that 4.1gm/sec was at 40psi,
32.65lb/hr at 40psi
39.65lb/hr at 59psi
this is probably too much to hope for. is there anyway to check this out?

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
Harlan mentioned the 42's, svo green tops, aka bosch 42's, good for ~600rwhp. You can get them new on ebay for around 300 or less. As long as you have Edit you can tweak the flow table to make them work. they drop in, exact form factor replacement to stock. why experiment further?

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
not sure on the flow rating for the flex fuel injectors. That's a function of the regulator. But the numbers i got are from what's in the injector table for that vehicle. So my guess is they are at 40 psi.
Might be a nice increase
I'm still digging for a mating connector to the injector plugs on the trucks. I may just have to call packard and have one of the tech guys dig for a mating one.

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
If the injectors are dimensionally similar to the ones in the cars, IE the o-rings are the same diameter and the length is the same, i'm looking for connectors to adapt the truck style connections to the car style.
Basically 8 short jumper harnesses to install the car style injectors
i'll have to go measure my truck injectors

Re: can i get rid of my extra injectors?
i would be in a heart beat if i knew they would work in my truck, i am not worried about the electrical conection unless it physicaly stops the injector from being installed, i am sure i could find some pigtails to splice into my harness.

i do not understand what you are talking about here, what are you looking for? and would it help me get some 42's into my truck?
i am pumped that you agree that the flex fuel injectors may be rated at 40psi, sounds like they might just be what i have been looking for.
