Default Qustion for those runnig FI.

Iam on my final stages of putting together my D1SC blower. I have a ported LS1 MAFS with out screens. I was wondering if you guys run the MAFS with the screens or without.

Ive heard a few things and Iam not sure what to believe. Ive heard that the screens will lower my boost because they will obstruct airflow. And I have also herd that it is better because it straitens the air and under boost it will give the air even more velocity?

What should I do keep my ported LS1 MAFS or purchase a recalibrated LS6 MAFS with screens? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I prefer the screens as I want as much precision with airflow management as I can get. 2bseen runs a granatelli and we had no trouble tuning for it with ls1edit

I wouldn't do it, and here's why...

I have three MAF's:

1. Stock with screen
2. Stock without screen and (basically) ported
3. Granetelli MAF

So, I've been able to test a variety of MAF setups. I've tried the Granetelli MAF and the Stock De-screened MAF AND the GMAF Ends with the stock MAF sensor.

My conclusion:

The screen in the MAF levels out the velocity of the air flowing thru the MAF at idle, thereby smoothing the surging at idle. It's probably not an issue with an N/A car, but the blower is pushing quite a stiff flow of air thru the MAF and throttle-body at idle. Everytime there was a slight surge (I guess from the load of the compressor), the surge was excacerbated by a pendulum-like effect of the MAF trying to chase the fluctuating air velocity at idle.

With the GMAF or the stock de-screened MAF at idle, it would actually cut off at some dips in idle. The problem was barely noticeable with the screened MAF.

The GMAF gave me about 1 to 2 tenths in the 8th mile, so it is a good unit. But I achieved NO gain with the GMAF or de-screened MAF since I installed the Supercharger, yet driveability suffered (idle).

BTW, I didn't HAVE to do this test. Jason at Golden West Performance told me exactly what my problem was the first time I reported it to him. He had already experienced this problem with blow-thru type SC's and de-screened MAF's. I took my GMAF off and put a screened MAF back on, and my idle-surging went way. Then I tested both setups at the 1/4-mile track and actually lost an average of a tenth of a second with the GMAF and de-screened MAF.

That was a no-brainer to me! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

So Screened MAFS it is. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Can someone confirm if the LS6 MAFS is bigger than the LS1. And if so where can I buy an LS6 MAFS that is calibrated for the LS1. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
