from the book Maximum boost by Corky bell on page 41.

"Too much oil pressure can create problems with turbos. It is possible to force oil past oil seals that are in perfect condition if oil pressure exceeds 65 to 70 psi.... Problems of oil pressure overpowering the seal are evident in a frequent if not quite constant smoking problem."

Sounds like we've found the source of our mystery smoke. However the cause isn't from the pump, it's from the return being somewhat restricted.

So how is the new setup going? Did you try reclocking the turbo like cablebandit suggested? Is it still smoking?

thanks, im pretty sure once i change it to the 7 oclock position it wont do it.

as of right now im waiting for my heads (6.0) to come back getting valve job and high rev springs on um.

got my 3" DP in though! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
might send it out to get coated.

Get it coated! The header wrap adds thickness and of course there is no room as it is. I had a hard time getting the downpipe in with the engine in the car. We had to put the downpipe in first and then the manifold. I just did the air compressor filter mod on the pcv and it seems to be working well!

In the book they specifically mentioned our type of turbo setup and recommended that you install a pan under the turbo to drain oil into and install a scavenge pump to pump that oil back uphill into the main pan.

The turbo should be clocked at 6:00 o'clock so the oil freely falls through the turbo. Setting it at 7:00 shouldn't be too bad though. They said it's ok to rotate within 30 degrees of 6:00 o'clock. Otherwise you add another problem.
