Default Vortech Mondo bypass...0-10psi???

I was researching on this Vortech Mondo bypass. Question is, if the unit is rated for 0-10 psi, what happens when the S/C is pullied up to make say 12, 14, 15 psi??? How does this actually work?
I know the valve is shut during WOT and when making boost. So any partial throttle between 0-10psi will be vented into the atmosphere?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Andy

i am looking to upgrade to the vortec mondo valve soon and i was wandering about that too. i thought it meant that it flows 600cfm @ 10psi when it is opened and releases the pressure. on their website it says flows 600cfm @ 10psi. it is their big valve so i would think it is capable of much more than 10psi.

I am under the impression that the valve is open EXCEPT under boost and WOT. Otherwise the valve is releasing pressure. This is what I am concluding from this.

right, if operating correctlly it should be opened until it gets positive pressure from the manifold. when you boost up to 10psi and realese the throttle and the valve opens it should realese 600cfm i believe is what they mean. i could be wrong though.

This is true but the definitions of boost (anything over .5psi ambient or 15psi) is adjustable, like the bypass valve. If you tighten the adjustment bolt, the vacuum at which the valve closes lowers (back towards ambient), so it will build boost measurably faster than a Mondo with the adjustment bolt all the way out.

Vortech Engineering recommends that you go no farther in than 4 turns. I have seen units break when screwed in further than 6psi. I run mine like the Vortech Instructions recommended - as far out as will still retain the internal bypass spring under all conditions. Be careful as you can back out the adjustment bolt to the point it disengages, and still have it look OK.

Regards,

Jim

John

Yea John, the idea of an 87' Regal tubbed SBC D1 would have been nice but I personally am liking the look of the 4th gen Camaro. After researching and looking at KP's and PSJ's setup and ET's, I am liking that route. It costs the same, if not a little less to go with my Camaro as the base since I won't have to "restore" an older gbody. Anyways, I am gathering parts as cash comes in. We'll have to meet up again when you are in PA, I wanna see that car now that the "bugs" are worked out.

Take care,
Andy
