Default Am I misinformed?

Perhaps it is late in the game to be realizing this, or perhaps I have gotten some bad information. I went to a performance shop the other night to drop of some a-arms to get some 1LE bushings pressed into them, while there I got to talking with one of the mechanics there who does a lot of supercharger installs on Mustangs, FBodies, and Corvettes so I asked him about my planned supercharger install.

I have a Powerdyne 6# supercharger that I was planning on putting on, along with a set of 6.0L heads and a thicker head gasket. He first asked why I was putting on the heads. I replied that primarily I was trying to lower the CR to make the FI setup more reliable (the increased exhaust valve size is an added bonus). He said it was completely unnecessary. After talking some more he realized that the supercharger I have has no intercooler. He said at that point that I should post the supercharger up to eBay because without cooling, that the intake temp would be too high and I'd 1) lose a lot of power, 2) sacrifice engine reliablility, 3) have to pump in a lot of gas in order to cool down the combustion.

I've been trying to read up a lot on the boards, and I understand that because you are compressing the air in the centerfuge, it increases the temperature. And I realize that if things get too hot there in the combustion chamber you get detonation. I thought that the 6.0L heads+.067" gasket would lower the CR to help avoid this, and that at water-alcohol injection system would help to cool the incoming air. The mechanic said that the h20 alchy kit wouldn't cut it, because you couldn't inject enough to cool down the temp to a decent level.

I don't want to blow up my engine, but I've already got the Powerdyne kit and I'd have to start out back at square one if I decide this isn't the path. What do you all think?

People still make good gains with the powerdyne kit. i believe Blackbird here has one of the most powerful powerdynes. hes using a alki set up with it.
the powerdyne should be an easy 50hp
in my opinoin FI isnt worth it unleess your shooting for over 500rwhp.

a good heads and cam package wil give you better results then the powerdyne.

you will have to watch your car for reliablity sake, be more carful.
the 6.0 heads will help out.
mine flowed great, as i had them midly home ported.

Do a search with "Powerdyne" as the searchword and "Blackbird" as the Forum member... you will find a wealth of information about the Powerdyne's performance and what has been done to enhance it... including alky solution.

you guys make me feel so special <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

these little pd's aren't so bad. not the best but not don't even bother with them bad.

you should be able to pick up ~100rwhp on a stock vehicle with the 6psi kit. it is true that the powerdyne's intake temps do get up there when under full boost. you do have to keep timing low because of this but you can still make good/safe power. for example a buddy of mine I help out made 401/406 on 91 octane with the PD and a borla exhaust as the only power mods.

now if your willing to do some work you can improve upon the kit by adding an intercooler or a water/alky setup. my water alky netted me 33rwhp from timing changes only, if I had tweaked a/f it would have been more. I didn't bother because I knew I was making changes to my setup, but I just wanted to see what the water alky netted me prior.

tommorrow I plan to take my new setup for it's first romp on the rollers and hope to trounce my current numbers.
