Default D1-SC Noise Levels... anyone request a quiet blower?

Anyone ever request a 'Quiet' ATI Procharger? Supposedly they decibel rate/sound test their head units. You can request quieter ones.

Wondering if anyone else has done this. What were ther results after install?

Thx!

I would think the P1-SC would be quieter than the D1-SC, if for no other reason than the differnt impeller set-up.

what sucks is that i ordered my D1sc and told them i want it to be the queitest (sp) they can get it , and i got one that is kinda loud ( you know there's a blower), and i guy i know ordered a d1sc for his vette ( didn't tell them anything about the noise ) got one that cant be heard when the fan kicks in ( even with the fan off it still doesn't sound like a blower). go figure??!

i say just call them and tell them if it's loud they'll have to take it back and give you a quieter one.

Mine was somewhat loud at first. Seems to have gotten a little quieter, but that may just be me getting used to it. I heard a guy tonight with the p1sc on a 5.0 gt, it was at least as loud as mine is, probably more so.

The gear cut determines the loudness. All of them are going to be kinda loud, but the rougher cuts (does not impact performance or durability) are more shrilly. IF you know someone who has a quiet one and wanted loud, but you have a loud one and want quiet, that sounds like a no-brainer to me. It would take an hour or two to swap the compressors out.

Thx Guys.

Supposedly they record each unit's rating in DB and track it by s/n. Quiet is 91-92 db, Normal is 95-97db, Loud is 100db.

You have to coordinate with the manufacturing/testing line if you want a certain noise level and hope one is made when you are ordering that meets your specs.

I dont know about you guys but I think it sounds frickin sweet! There's nothing more intimidating than the whine and whistle of a supercharger when that mustang pulls up next to you. Purging the nitrous doesnt hurt either. Then of course there are girls that are really hot but know nothing about cars and they say "his car is kinda loud"

It does sound cool. Just going for sleeper mode here. Between the cops and all the rice I think it'd ease my stress level.

My D-1SC goes on this weekend - right now I'm hoping it is loud, but I might get tired of it. Actually, I probably won't! It does kinda go against the sleeper look I've built, but what the hell?!

And yes, the nitrous can stay hooked up if for no other reason than a purge with whine!

sleeper mode = TURBO

superchargers are all fundamentally loud

Azzhaulers D1 is MUCH quieter than old ati head units used to be. that is what ati is comparing them to, not to the noise of a stock ls1.
