Surge valve I have heard SuperCharger guys use what's called a surge valve. The way it was explaned to me is it's like a wastegate for superchargers. When the engine is idling the surge valve releases pressure so the impeller can spin more freely, reducing stress.
What's the deal? They make these for the Procharger?

It's also there to protect the impeller blades when you let off the gas.
When your going WOT and you let off the gas the air that has already been compressed but, hasn't gone in the motor hits the closed TB blade. It backs up in the tubing and creates alot of pressure. This pressure can damage the impeller blades. The surge valve relieves this pressure before it can do damage though. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Re: Surge valve No the blow off valve in the ATI kit is not as noticable as the ones that you typically hear on the import turbo setups, but that is because the turbo ones, say like the ones from Blitz, actually are made to make more more noise, more like the whistle you would think of, and they also come with a muffler like alternative pice to put in place of the noisy one, i personally knda like tha sound of the ATI blow off, it isn't so much a whistle, as just the loud sound of rushing air out of a 1 " tube, kinda sounds cool we are going to probably slap a blitz on my car this spring real quick just to see the sound difference on one of our cars, i guess it's all just preferance, i kinda like the sound of the blowoff, you can pull up next to a guy fast, let off it, then whoosh scare the **** out of them like they never saw it coming. <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
